Retroperitoneal hematoma volume is a good predictor of perioperative mortality after endovascular aneurysm repair for ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm.
The objective of this study was to validate the usefulness of retroperitoneal hematoma volume as a predictor of perioperative mortality after endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) for ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm (rAAA). ⋯ Our study suggests that retroperitoneal hematoma volume may be a good predictor of perioperative mortality after EVAR for rAAA, especially for patients with Fitzgerald classification >III and a best cutoff value of 6.97%.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyThe Effect of Goreisan on the Prevention of Chronic Subdural Hematoma Recurrence: Multi-Center Randomized Controlled Study.
The relatively high rate of post-operative recurrence in the treatment of chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH) is a significant problem. Goreisan is an herbal medicine that exhibits a hydragogue effect by inhibiting the expression of aquaporins, and its efficacy in preventing post-operative CSDH recurrence has been suggested by several case trials. This multi-center prospective randomized controlled trial was performed to investigate the preventative effect of goreisan on post-operative CSDH recurrence. ⋯ The recurrence rates considering patients of all ages and patients under 75 years old were relatively low in the goreisan group but without a significant difference. The hematoma volume reduction rates showed no significant difference. Based on the results of the present study, a larger-scale study including more cases is necessary in future to confirm the efficacy of goreisan.

To investigate the role of angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors in the recurrence of chronic subdural hematoma (cSDH) after burr hole surgery. ⋯ In this population-based study, the use of ACE inhibitors was not associated with the risk of recurrence following burr hole surgery for cSDH.

How early can we perform cranioplasty for traumatic brain injury after decompressive craniectomy? A retrospective multi-center study.
Decompressive craniectomy (DC) is used to treat intractable intracranial hypertension after severe traumatic brain injury (TBI). Cranioplasty (CP) is typically performed weeks or months later. However, the optimal timing for CP is unknown. We aimed to determine the earliest possible time point for CP. ⋯ CP can be performed at around 34 days after DC for TBI. Ventriculomegaly occurred less frequently and the 6-month Glasgow Outcome Scale score was better in the early CP group than in the late CP group.

Multicenter Study Observational StudyEarly Achievement of Blood Pressure Lowering and Hematoma Growth in Acute Intracerebral Hemorrhage: Stroke Acute Management with Urgent Risk-Factor Assessment and Improvement-Intracerebral Hemorrhage Study.
Previous studies have revealed that hematoma growth mainly occurs during the first 6 h after the onset of spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). Early lowering of blood pressure (BP) may be beneficial for preventing hematoma growth. However, relationships between timing of BP lowering and hematoma growth in ICH remain unclear. We investigated associations between timing of BP lowering and hematoma growth for ICH. ⋯ Early achievement of target SBP < 160 mm Hg is associated with a lower risk of hematoma growth in ICH.
