Predictors of intra-operative recall of awareness: Thai Anesthesia Incidents Study (THAI Study): a case-control study.
The authors determined predictors of intra-operative recall of awareness in the Thai Anesthesia Incidents Study (THAI Study). ⋯ In the THAI Study, predictors of intra-operative recall of awareness were cesarean delivery and cardiac surgery. Use of nitrous oxide attenuates the risk of awareness.

Multicenter Study Comparative StudyFactors predictive of patient satisfaction with anesthesia.
In this multicenter prospective study, we identified factors associated with satisfaction with anesthesia in patients staying in hospital at least 24 h after surgery. ⋯ Inpatient satisfaction can be improved by an organization in which surgical suite nurses are dedicated only to anesthesia, a written anesthesia information leaflet is given during the preoperative visit and postoperative visits are enhanced.

The Thai Anesthesia Incidents Study (THAI Study) of ambulatory anesthesia: Part I: Method, geographic distribution and population.
There is a continuing trend to have more elective surgical operations performed on an outpatient basis. ⋯ From the results of the present study, the authors have concluded that the rate of expansion of ambulatory anesthesia in Thailand is relatively slow, and varies according to the type of hospital and its geographic region. This indicates further studies should be formally conducted to determine factors affecting the practice of ambulatory surgery in Thailand. A large proportion of patients receive initial pre-anesthetic evaluation in the operating room on the day of surgery. This indicates that a system of pre-anesthetic evaluation should be set up for outpatients such as a pre-anesthetic care clinic should be set up for outpatients.

Multicenter StudyClinical evaluation of a new formulation of propofol in a medium-chain and long-chain triglycerides emulsion in dogs.
Propofol formulated in a mixed medium-chain and long-chain triglycerides emulsion has been recently introduced for clinical use as an alternative to the conventional long-chain triglycerides formulation. This prospective multicentric study evaluated the clinical effectiveness and the complications associated with the use of this new formulation of propofol in dogs. Forty-six Spanish veterinary clinics participated in this study. ⋯ There were no cases of pain on injection or aspiration pneumonia. Three dogs died (0.55%), one during induction and two during recovery from anaesthesia. This study demonstrates that the new formulation of propofol is an useful and effective drug to induce general anaesthesia in dogs.

Adrenergic receptor genotype but not perioperative bisoprolol therapy may determine cardiovascular outcome in at-risk patients undergoing surgery with spinal block: the Swiss Beta Blocker in Spinal Anesthesia (BBSA) study: a double-blinded, placebo-controlled, multicenter trial with 1-year follow-up.
Neuraxial blockade is used as primary anesthetic technique in one third of surgical procedures. The authors tested whether bisoprolol would protect patients at risk for cardiovascular complications undergoing surgery with spinal block. ⋯ Perioperative bisoprolol therapy did not affect cardiovascular outcome in these elderly at-risk patients undergoing surgery with spinal block.
