Meta AnalysisA Comparison of Volatile Anesthesia and Total Intravenous Anesthesia (TIVA) Effects on Outcome From Cardiac Surgery: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.
The primary objective of this study was to compare one-year mortality in patients undergoing cardiac surgery with volatile anesthesia or total intravenous anesthesia (TIVA). Secondary objectives were to compare in-hospital and 30-day mortality, postoperative levels of creatine kinase (CK-MB) and cardiac troponin, and durations of tracheal intubation, intensive care unit (ICU) and hospital stays. ⋯ No significant differences in mortality (in-hospital, 30-day, 1-year), troponin and CK-MB concentrations 24 h postoperatively, or time to tracheal extubation were found between patients who had volatile anesthesia or TIVA. Compared to TIVA, volatile anesthesia was associated with shorter durations of hospital and ICU stays.

Meta AnalysisAnesthetic Induction With Etomidate in Cardiac Surgical Patients: A PRISMA-Compliant Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.
This meta-analysis aimed to systematically review the effects of etomidate (ETM) during anesthetic induction on patients undergoing cardiac surgery. ⋯ The present meta-analysis suggested that single-dose ETM during anesthetic induction could be associated with more stable hemodynamics, transient and reversible lower cortisol levels, and a higher adrenal insufficiency incidence, but not worse outcomes in cardiac surgical patients.

Meta Analysis Comparative StudyMedical treatment of SUNCT and SUNA: a prospective open-label study including single-arm meta-analysis.
The management of short-lasting unilateral neuralgiform headache attacks with conjunctival injection and tearing (SUNCT) and short-lasting unilateral neuralgiform headache attacks with cranial autonomic symptoms (SUNA) remains challenging in view of the paucity of data and evidence-based treatment recommendations are missing. ⋯ We propose a treatment algorithm for SUNCT and SUNA for clinical practice. The response to sodium channel blockers indicates a therapeutic overlap with trigeminal neuralgia, suggesting that sodium channels dysfunction may be a key pathophysiological hallmark in these disorders. Furthermore, the therapeutic similarities between SUNCT and SUNA further support the hypothesis that these conditions are variants of the same disorder.
