The exacerbation of neurological outcomes often occurs in aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH). Statins have been commonly used for aSAH; however, there is lack of evidence of the pharmacological efficacy of different dosages and types of statins. ⋯ Statins could significantly diminish the incidence of ICEs and enhance functional prognosis in patients with aSAH. Various types and dosages of statins show distinct efficacies.

Subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH) is a life-threatening condition with associated brain damage. Moreover, SAH is associated with a massive release of catecholamines, which may promote cardiac injury and dysfunction, possibly leading to haemodynamic instability, which in turn may influence a patient's outcome. ⋯ About one in five patients with SAH develops cardiac dysfunction, which seems to be associated with higher in-hospital mortality. The consistency of cardiac and neurological data reporting is lacking, reducing the comparability of the studies in this field.

Effect of Cilostazol in Animal Models of Cerebral Ischemia and Subarachnoid Hemorrhage: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.
Cilostazol, a phosphodiesterase III inhibitor, appears to be a promising agent for preventing cerebral ischemia in patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage. Here, the authors perform a systematic review and meta-analysis to quantitatively assess the effects of cilostazol on brain structural and functional outcomes in animal models of cerebral ischemia and subarachnoid hemorrhage-induced cerebral vasospasm. ⋯ Published animal data support the overall efficacy of cilostazol in reducing infarct volume and neurofunctional deficits in cerebral ischemia models and cerebral vasospasm in subarachnoid hemorrhage models.

Flow diverters coated with antithrombogenic substances were recently introduced and have shown encouraging results in the preclinical setting. Our aim was to analyze their clinical application in patients with ruptured intracranial aneurysms using single antiplatelet therapy (SAPT). ⋯ Flow diversion for ruptured aneurysms under SAPT with coated stents is feasible. Although the risk of hemorrhagic complications was low, thromboembolic complications occurred in a significant number of patients, all under ASA SAPT.

Meta AnalysisDoes the use of oral contraceptives or hormone replacement therapy offer protection against the formation or rupture of intracranial aneurysms in women?: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
The aim of this study was to carry out a systematic review of the literature with meta-analysis to evaluate the effect of using oral contraceptive and hormone replacement therapy as a protective factor in the formation of intracranial aneurysms and subarachnoid hemorrhage. ⋯ The use of hormone replacement therapy and oral contraceptive has a protective effect in intracranial aneurysm rupture and formation.
