Diagnostic Value of Serum Biomarkers for Patients Undergoing Curative Resection with Non-B, Non-C Hepatocellular Carcinoma.
To determine the diagnostic value of alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) and des-gamma-carboxy prothrombin (DCP) for patients with non-B, non-C hepatocellular carcinoma (NBNC HCC). ⋯ A combination of AFP and DCP is useful for assisting the diagnosis of NBNC HCC before surgery. AFP and DCP showed better diagnostic accuracy for HBcAb-negativity compared with HBcAb-positivity in NBNC HCC patients.

Development of Hepatocellular Carcinoma in Patients with Glycogen Storage Disease: a Single Center Retrospective Study.
Glycogen storage disease (GSD) is an inherited disorder leading to abnormal glucose metabolism and glycogen accumulation, and is associated with various complications including hepatic adenoma and hepatocellular carcinoma. The aim of this study was to analyze the risk factors for hepatic adenoma and its malignant change, and the hepatocellular carcinoma-free survival rate in patients with GSD who developed adenoma. ⋯ The present study found that portacaval shunt operation increases the risk of development of hepatic adenoma in GSD patients, especially in GSD type I. The hepatic adenoma in GSD patients has a potential of malignant transformation, which should be keep in mind in follow-up process of the disease.

Combined use of murine double minute-2 promoter methylation and serum AFP improves diagnostic efficiency in hepatitis B virus-related hepatocellular carcinoma.
Objective: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) accounts for approximately 85% of all cases of liver cancer. In China, chronic hepatitis B virus-related HCC (HBV-related HCC) is the most common type of HCC. However, the majority of HBV-related HCC patients are asymptomatic, and the best opportunities for treating these patients are missed. ⋯ Moreover, the combination of MDM2 promoter methylation and alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) improved the diagnosis of HBV-related HCC. Conclusions: Our study indicates, for the first time, that MDM2 promoter hypomethylation is present in HBV-related HCC patients. The combination of MDM2 promoter methylation and AFP can greatly improve diagnostic efficiency in HBV-related HCC, which might provide a new method for HBV-related HCC diagnosis.

Role of Intravoxel Incoherent Motion in Discriminating Hepatitis B Virus-Related Intrahepatic Mass-Forming Cholangiocarcinoma from Hepatocellular Carcinoma Based on Liver Imaging Reporting and Data System v2018.
Backgroud: Intravoxel incoherent motion (IVIM) could be used to characterize benign and malignant hepatic lesions and predict the histological grade of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). To evaluate IVIM-derived parameters for differentiating between hepatitis B virus (HBV)-related intrahepatic mass-forming cholangiocarcinoma (IMCC) and HCC based on the Liver Imaging Reporting and Data System (LI-RADS) v2018. Materials and Methods: 20 IMCC patients and one-to-one matched control HCC patients were retrospectively assessed. ⋯ Conclusion: The majority of HBV-related IMCCs can be categorized as LR-M by using LI-RADS. However, atypical IMCCs may be classified as non-LR-M. ADC, D, and f values may be helpful in differentiating HBV-related IMCC from HCC, and similar diagnostic performances were obtained for these values.
