Meta Analysis[A meta-analysis of aprepitant for prevention of chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting].
To assess the efficacy and safety of aprepitant for the prevention of chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) after moderately or highly emetogenic chemotherapy. ⋯ Aprepitant can improve the control of vomiting, but has slight effect on nausea. Patients receiving AC regimen benefit less than patients receiving cisplatin chemotherapy. In view of its high cost, pharmacoeconomics researches of aprepitant should be considered.

Review Meta AnalysisInterventions for nausea and vomiting in early pregnancy.
Nausea, retching and vomiting are very commonly experienced by women in early pregnancy. There are considerable physical and psychological effects on women who experience these symptoms. This is an update of a review of interventions for nausea and vomiting in early pregnancy previously published in 2003. ⋯ Given the high prevalence of nausea and vomiting in early pregnancy, health professionals need to provide clear guidance to women, based on systematically reviewed evidence. There is a lack of high-quality evidence to support that advice. The difficulties in interpreting the results of the studies included in this review highlight the need for specific, consistent and clearly justified outcomes and approaches to measurement in research studies.

Review Meta AnalysisA systematic review of the treatment of nausea and/or vomiting in cancer unrelated to chemotherapy or radiation.
A systematic review of antiemetics for emesis in cancer unrelated to chemotherapy and radiation is an important step in establishing treatment recommendations and guiding future research. Therefore, a systematic review based on the question "What is the evidence that supports antiemetic choices in advanced cancer?" guided this review. ⋯ There are discrepancies between antiemetic studies and published antiemetic guidelines, which are largely based on expert opinion. Antiemetic recommendations have moderate to weak evidence at best. Prospective randomized trials of single antiemetics are needed to properly establish evidence-based guidelines.

Review Meta AnalysisAntiemetic medication for prevention and treatment of chemotherapy induced nausea and vomiting in childhood.
Nausea and vomiting are still a problem for children undergoing treatment for malignancies despite new antiemetic therapies. Optimising antiemetic regimens could improve quality of life by reducing nausea, vomiting and associated clinical problems. ⋯ Our overall knowledge of the most effective antiemetics to prevent chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting in childhood is incomplete. Future research should be undertaken in consultation with children, young people and families that have experienced chemotherapy and should make use of validated, age-appropriate measures. This review suggests that 5-HT(3) antagonists with dexamethasone added are effective in patients who are to receive highly emetogenic chemotherapy although the risk-benefit profile of additional steroid remains uncertain.

Review Meta AnalysisSerotonin receptor antagonists for highly emetogenic chemotherapy in adults.
Serotonin receptor antagonists (5-HT(3) RAs) are used to control chemotherapy-induced emesis. Although they have the same general mechanism of action (blockade of serotonin receptors), they have different chemical structures and may have different effects. ⋯ Ondansetron and granisetron appear to be equivalent drugs for the prevention of acute and delayed emesis following the use of highly emetogenic chemotherapy.According to one single trial the combination of palonosetron and dexamethasone was superior to granisetron and dexamethasone in controlling delayed emesis. However, more evidence is needed before palonosetron could become the candidate 5-HT(3) RA for the control of delayed emesis induced by highly emetogenic chemotherapy.
