IntroductionExcessive release of inflammatory cytokines that induces hematopoietic progenitor cell apoptosis lead to the persistent anaemia which results delay recovery of patients with trauma hemorrhagic shock (T/HS). Therefore, aim was to investigate of the correlation of serum cytokines on in-vitro hematopoietic progenitor cells growth among T/HS patients. This study investigates the serum cytokines levels in patients with trauma hemorrhagic shock and correlation with hematopoietic stem cell growth/differentiation.MethodsWe have recruited 70 patients (day 1) with T/HS and those patients who have survived on day 3, bone marrow (BM) sample (n = 14) were collected for hematopoietic stem cell growth/differentiation. Peripheral blood samples were collected (day1) in each patient for determination of serum cytokines concentration. Samples were obtained within 8 h of post injury. BM aspirates were collected on day 3 (n = 14) those patient who have survived. BM cells were cultured for hematopoietic progenitor's cells growth.ResultsElevated serum cytokines levels IL-6, IL-10, IL-8, and MCP-1 (p < 0.05) were detected in a T/HS as compared with healthy control group. Serum levels of TNF-α, and IL-6 negatively correlated with hematopoietic stem cell growth.ConclusionOur studies suggested hematopoietic stem cell growth suppressed by serum levels of cytokines TNF-α, and IL6. Further studies need to be undertaken to evaluate potential therapeutic strategies for TNF-α and IL-6 in the given setting.
