ReviewA review of the safety of vaccines used in routine immunization in Africa.
Despite the significant role played by vaccines in global health, concerns over vaccine safety have increased tremendously over the years. There have been occasions where vaccines have caused rare, adverse reactions some of which have led to hospitalizations and even death. It is therefore important to establish the safety profile of routinely used vaccines in order to allay fears pertaining to their use. ⋯ Even though AEFIs (including mild and severe) were identified in the review, all the vaccines studied were generally well tolerated.

ReviewAssociation between the Interleukin-10 -1082 G/A polymorphism and risk of hepatocellular carcinoma.
Inconsistent results have been reported from studies investigating the relationship of the interleukin-10 (IL-10) -1082 G/A polymorphism and the susceptibility of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Therefore, a thorough literature review of relatedstudies was performed in this meta-analysis to examine the association of the interleukin-10(IL-10) -1082 G/A polymorphism with HCC susceptibility. ⋯ The results of our study suggest no association between IL-10 -1082 G/A polymorphism and the risk of HCC.

Approach to stress endocrine response: somatization in the context of gastroenterological symptoms: a systematic review.
Stress can be defined as an acute threat to the homeostasis of an organism, and in order to manage stress, and maintain stability, the allostatic systems activate an adaptive response. Stress has been shown to have both short - and long-term effects on the function of the gastrointestinal tract, but long-term exposure to stress is more likely to cause endocrine disorders. ⋯ This study examined how the endocrine system responds to stress, and the effect this has in causing stress-related gastrointestinal distresses. Our findings indicate that stress-related psychological disorders are strongly associated with the severity of gastrointestinal symptoms.
