Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyOral ivermectin for head lice: a comparison with 0.5 % topical malathion lotion.
Reports of treatment failure of head lice have become increasingly common. Oral ivermectin has been proposed as a potential alternative for the treatment of head lice infestation. The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy of oral ivermectin with topical malathion lotion in the treatment of head lice. ⋯ Oral ivermectin is a promising effective approach for the treatment of head lice and could be an ideal substitute for conventional pediculicides.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyMulticenter study "Medical-Occupational Rehabilitation Procedure Skin--optimizing and quality assurance of inpatient-management (ROQ)".
Scientifically based prevention and patient management concepts in occupational dermatology have substantially improved during recent years. Currently the public statutory employers' liability insurance bodies fund a multi-step intervention approach designed to provide quick preventive help for all levels of severity of occupational dermatoses. An administrative guideline (hierarchical multi-step intervention procedure for occupational skin diseases--"Stufenverfahren Haut") insures professional support and optimal patient orientation by the statutory insurers' representatives. ⋯ TIP requires 3 weeks inpatient treatment including intensive health care instruction and psychological counseling, followed by outpatient treatment by the local dermatologist. In 2005, a German prospective cohort multicenter study ("Medical-Occupational Rehabilitation Procedure Skin--optimizing and quality assurance of inpatient-management"-"Medizinisch-Berufliches Rehabilitationsverfahren Haut--Optimierung und Qualitätssicherung des Heilverfahrens"[ROQ]) started which will further standardize TIP and evaluate scientific sustainability in depth (3-year dermatological follow-up of 1,000 patients). The study is being funded by the German Statutory Accident Insurance (Deutsche Gesetzliche Unfallversicherung [DGUV]).

Randomized Controlled TrialEfficacy and safety of pimecrolimus cream 1% in adult patients with vitiligo: results of a randomized, double-blind, vehicle-controlled study.
Vitiligo is an acquired, pigmentary skin disorder which is disfiguring and difficult to treat. In an earlier open label study in adult patients with vitiligo, pimecrolimus cream 1% was reported to have similar efficacy as clobetasol propionate 0.05%. We performed a double-blind, intrapatient comparison of pimecrolimus cream 1% with placebo cream. ⋯ In this group of adult patients with symmetrical vitiligo, treatment of body lesions (except face) with pimecrolimus cream 1% could not be shown to be effective.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative StudyIntravenous dexamethasone-cyclophosphamide pulse therapy in comparison with oral methylprednisolone-azathioprine therapy in patients with pemphigus: results of a multicenter prospectively randomized study.
Pemphigus is a potentially life-threatening autoimmune blistering skin disease usually treated with high-dose corticosteroids in combination with immunosuppressive drugs. In a multicenter, prospectively randomized study we compared efficacy and side effects of a dexamethasone-cyclophosphamide (D/C) pulse therapy with a methylprednisolone-azathioprine (M/A) therapy in 22 patients with newly diagnosed pemphigus vulgaris and pemphigus foliaceus. ⋯ Because of the high number of progressions in patients treated with D/C therapy, we can not confirm the encouraging results of earlier reports about pulse D/C therapy. Nevertheless D/C therapy seemed to be better tolerated and, in case of primary efficacy, was associated with fewer recurrences than M/A therapy.
