Transcutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation for preventing postoperative nausea and vomiting after general anesthesia: A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
We performed this meta-analysis to evaluate the effectiveness of transcutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation (TEAS) for preventing postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) after general anesthesia. ⋯ TEAS is a reasonable modality to incorporate into a multimodal management approach for the prevention of PONV, PON, POV and associated with lower numbers needing antiemetic rescue, lower incidence of adverse effects after general anesthesia.

Critical appraisal of the techniques of pancreatic anastomosis following pancreaticoduodenectomy: A network meta-analysis.
Postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF) remains a major cause of morbidity following pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD). This network meta-analysis (NMA) compared techniques of pancreatic anastomosis following PD to determine the technique with the best outcome profile. ⋯ Duct-to-mucosa pancreaticogastrostomy was associated with the lowest rates of clinically relevant POPF and had the best outcome profile among all techniques of pancreatico-anastomosis following PD.

Comparative analysis for the effect of Roux-en-Y gastric bypass vs sleeve gastrectomy in patients with morbid obesity: Evidence from 11 randomized clinical trials (meta-analysis).
Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (LRYGB) and laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) are the most common procedures performed during bariatric surgery and both of them have been demonstrated having significant efficacy for morbid obesity. However, the comparative analysis of the effect of them has not been well studied. Thus, this comparative analysis was conducted to determine whether LRYGB and LSG are equivalent for mid- and long-term weight loss, resolution of comorbidities and adverse events (AEs). ⋯ The present meta-analysis indicated that both LRYGB and LSG are equivalent for excess weight loss and T2DM resolution. However, patients receiving LSG experienced fewer postoperative complications and reoperation rate than those who underwent LRYGB. LRYGB may be superior in dyslipidemia, hypertension and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) remission.

Continuous adductor canal block is a better choice compared to single shot after primary total knee arthroplasty: A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
The advantages of continuous adductor canal block (CACB) over single shot ACB (SACB) are still debatable for pain management after total knee arthroplasty (TKA). The aim of this study was to investigate which ACB method provides better pain relief after TKA. ⋯ Compared with SACB, CACB provides better analgesia after TKA. Therefore, CACB is recommended as an analgesic method for early postoperative pain treatment after TKA.

Is laparoscopic lavage safe in purulent diverticulitis versus colonic resection? A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Diverticulitis is one of the most common gastrointestinal diseases in western population. Colonic resection is recommended by international guidelines as a routinely used technique for purulent diverticulitis. Laparoscopic lavage was introduced as a non-resection alternative. The studies available so far have shown contradictory results. This meta-analysis aims to compare laparoscopic lavage versus colonic resection in patients with Hinchey Ⅲ-Ⅳ diverticulitis. ⋯ Laparoscopic lavage for patients with Hinchey Ⅲ to Ⅳ diverticulitis does provide similar mortality, shorter operative time and hospital stay. However, the evidence so far suggests that it might be inadequate for sepsis control and may result in more unplanned reoperations. Further studies are needed to standardize the formal indication for laparoscopic lavage.
