Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study
Additional effect of perioperative, compared with preoperative, immunonutrition after pancreaticoduodenectomy: A randomized, controlled trial.
We have reported that perioperative and preoperative immunonutrition reduced infectious complications in patients undergoing pancreaticoduodenectomy; however, it is unclear whether perioperative immunonutrition has additional effects compared with preoperative immunonutrition. The present study evaluated whether perioperative, compared with preoperative, immunonutrition has additional effects on cell-mediated immunity and the infection rate after pancreaticoduodenectomy. ⋯ There were no additional effects of perioperative, compared with preoperative, immunonutrition on postoperative immunity and infectious complications in patients undergoing pancreaticoduodenectomy.

Investigation of single-dose thoracic paravertebral analgesia for postoperative pain control after thoracoscopic lobectomy - A randomized controlled trial.
Thoracoscopic lobectomy is less painful than normal thoracotomy, but pain management is still an issue in the postoperative period. Thoracic epidural analgesia (TEA) is considered as the gold standard for post-thoracotomy pain control, but is associated with numerous risks. ⋯ Single-dose 0.5% ropivacaine combined with dexmedetomidine (1 μg/kg) PVB provides satisfactory postoperative pain control after thoracoscopic lobectomy, and can reduce the incidence of postoperative side effects.

Comparison of hook plate with versus without double-tunnel coracoclavicular ligament reconstruction for repair of acute acromioclavicular joint dislocations: A prospective randomized controlled clinical trial.
This study was designed to compare the surgical outcomes of a hook plate with double-tunnel coracoclavicular (CC) ligament reconstruction by conjoined tendon transfer versus single hook plate surgery for the repair of acute type of Rockwood type III and V acromioclavicular (AC) joint dislocations. ⋯ The overall surgical effect of the use of a hook plate combined with double-tunnel CC ligament reconstruction is superior to single hook plate surgery for the repair of acute Rockwood type III and V AC joint dislocations.

Intraoperative endoscopy prevents technical defect related leaks in laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass: A randomized control trial.
Postoperative anastomotic leaks, bleeding and stenosis are major causes of morbidity after laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (LRYGB). Retrospective studies suggest that intraoperative endoscopy reduces the incidence of these complications. ⋯ This study specifically provides evidence that air leak test performed by intraoperative endoscopy is superior to simple visual inspection in preventing technical defect related leaks after laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass.

Shockwave treatment for medial tibial stress syndrome in military cadets: A single-blind randomized controlled trial.
Medial tibial stress syndrome (MTSS) is a common injury in athletes and soldiers. Several studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of extracorporeal shockwave treatment (ESWT) in athletes with MTSS.
