Review Meta Analysis
Teriparatide versus bisphosphonates for treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis: A meta-analysis.
This meta-analysis aims to compare the efficacy of teriparatide and bisphosphonates for reducing vertebral fracture risk and bone mineral density (BMD) in lumbar spine and femoral neck in postmenopausal women with osteoporosis. ⋯ Teriparatide is an effective agent in reducing the risk of vertebral fracture in postmenopausal women with osteoporosis. Furthermore, teriparatide can increase the BMD in lumbar spine and femoral neck in long-terms duration.

Meta Analysis
The efficacy of fascia iliaca compartment block for pain control after hip arthroplasty: A meta-analysis.
To assess the effect of fascia iliaca compartment block (FICB) on pain control and morphine consumption in patients with total hip arthroplasty (THA). ⋯ FICB has a beneficial role in reducing pain intensity and morphine consumption after THA. Moreover, FICB has morphine-sparing effects when compared with a control group. More high-quality RCTs are needed to identify the optimal technique and volume of injectate for FICB.

Optimal pain management after total hip arthroplasty (THA) remains controversial. We perform a meta-analysis from randomized controlled trials (RCTs) to evaluate the efficacy and safety of fascia iliaca compartment block (FICB) in THA. ⋯ Fascia iliaca compartment block was effective for pain relief during the early post-operative period after total hip arthroplasty. Meanwhile, it reduced the cumulative morphine consumption and the risk of opioid-related adverse effects.

Meta Analysis Comparative Study
The impact of laryngeal mask versus other airways on perioperative respiratory adverse events in children: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
Increasing studies have shown that the use of laryngeal mask airways (LMAs) improved the perioperative respiratory adverse events (PRAEs) in children. However, the results of some of these studies still remained controversial as their sample sizes were small. A systematic review and meta-analysis was designed to evaluate the impact of LMAs in decreasing PRAEs in children. ⋯ LMAs reduced the incidences of many PRAEs in children and should be used as one of anaesthesia methods for children.

Current guidelines state that the Shouldice technique has lower recurrence rates than other suture repairs and therefore is strongly recommended in non-mesh inguinal hernia repair. Recently a new tissue repair technique has been proposed by Desarda and studied in trials against Lichtenstein technique. ⋯ Desarda's hernia repair can be a valuable alternative to Shouldice technique for the treatment of primary inguinal hernia repair if a non-mesh technique is chosen, because of its reproducibility and quicker postoperative recovery. We recommend performing well designed prospective studies comparing both techniques directly.
