We sought to evaluate the safety and feasibility of the Impella 2.5 system (Abiomed Inc., Danvers, Massachusetts) in patients undergoing high-risk percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). ⋯ The Impella 2.5 system is safe, easy to implant, and provides excellent hemodynamic support during high-risk PCI. Survival of elderly patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention for acute myocardial infarction complicated by cardiogenic shock.
We sought to assess clinical outcomes of elderly patients (age >or=75 years) undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for acute myocardial infarction (MI) complicated by cardiogenic shock (CS) in a contemporary multicenter PCI registry. ⋯ In this study, the 1-year survival of elderly patients with acute MI complicated by CS undergoing PCI was comparable to younger patients. These data suggest that in elderly patients presenting with CS, benefit is possible with selective use of early revascularization and merits further investigation.

Late results after percutaneous closure of patent foramen ovale for secondary prevention of paradoxical embolism using the amplatzer PFO occluder without intraprocedural echocardiography: effect of device size.
We sought to assess the safety and clinical efficacy of patent foramen ovale (PFO) closure under fluoroscopic guidance only, without intraprocedural echocardiography. ⋯ The Amplatzer PFO Occluder affords excellent safety and long-term clinical efficacy of percutaneous PFO closure without intraprocedural echocardiography.
