Molecularly guided treatment of metastatic parotid gland carcinoma in adults.
Advanced therapy-refractory parotid gland carcinomas have a poor prognosis with limited therapy options. We used molecular profiling to offer molecular guided therapies to patients with advanced metastatic parotid gland malignancies. ⋯ A total of eight therapy recommendations were provided. Based on our observations, molecular-guided therapies may be a feasible treatment approach for this rare disease entity.

Effects of a structured exercise program on physical performance and function, quality of life and work ability of physically active breast cancer survivors : A retrospective data analysis.
Purpose of this retrospective data analysis was to depict the effects of a structured off-season conditioning program with breast cancer survivors competing in dragon boat paddling. ⋯ A structured and well-planned exercise intervention program can have a large effect on the physical performance of pretrained breast cancer survivors. Moreover, it can increase the body image and decrease the arm symptoms in this population.

Austrian recommendations for the management of essential thrombocythemia.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO) classification, essential (primary) thrombocythemia (ET) is one of several Bcr-Abl negative chronic myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN). The classical term MPN covers the subcategories of MPN: ET, polycythemia vera (PV), primary myelofibrosis (PMF), and prefibrotic PMF (pPMF). ET is marked by clonal proliferation of hematopoietic stem cells, leading to a chronic overproduction of platelets. ⋯ Primary and secondary prevention of these complications can be achieved with platelet function inhibitors and various cytoreductive drugs including anagrelide, hydroxyurea and interferon. After a long follow up, in a minority of ET patients the disease transforms into post-ET myelofibrosis or secondary leukemia. Overall, life expectancy with ET is only slightly decreased.

What sports activity levels are achieved in long-term survivors with modular endoprosthetic humerus reconstruction following primary bone sarcoma resection?
The aim of the study was to assess (1) sports activity, (2) sports involving the upper extremities, (3) functional outcome and (4) sports-related complications of long-term survivors of primary malignant bone tumors of the proximal humerus. ⋯ Patients with a modular endoprosthetic reconstruction of the humerus following primary bone sarcoma resume participation in sports. Regarding the low incidence of periprosthetic infections, utilization of a synthetic mesh for reconstruction to prevent soft tissue complications in active patients should be considered.

Olaratumab plus anthracyline in advanced/metastatic soft tissue sarcoma : Data of real-world utilization in Austria.
Olaratumab is a humanized monoclonal antiplatelet-derived growth factor receptor alpha antibody that has been approved in combination with doxorubicin for the treatment of patients with metastatic soft tissue sarcoma (STS). The purpose of this retrospective study was to assess the clinical efficacy in STS patients treated with olaratumab in a real-world setting in Austria. ⋯ In this real-world analysis the outcome was less pronounced compared to the results of both the phase Ib/II approval trial and the confirmatory phase III trial. The latter failed to show an improvement in OS and PFS for the doxorubicin/olaratumab combination. As such, olaratumab should not be used anymore in patients with STS.
