Assessing serum albumin concentration, lymphocyte count and prognostic nutritional index might improve prognostication in patients with myelofibrosis.
Primary and secondary myelofibrosis (PMF and SMF) are malignant diseases of hematopoietic stem cell characterized by the neoplastic myeloproliferation and a strong inflammatory milieu. The prognostic nutritional index (PNI) integrates information on albumin and absolute lymphocyte count (ALC) and reflects the inflammatory, nutritional and immune status of a patient. The clinical and prognostic significance of albumin, ALC and PNI in patients with myelofibrosis has not been previously investigated. ⋯ Assessing albumin, ALC and PNI might improve prognostication in patients with myelofibrosis and could assist in recognition of patients under increased risk of death.

Prevalence of mental diseases in Austria : Systematic review of the published evidence.
Addressing the growing burden of mental diseases is a public health priority. Nevertheless, many countries lack reliable estimates of the proportion of the population affected, which are crucial for health and social policy planning. This study aimed to collect existing evidence on the prevalence of mental diseases in Austria. ⋯ Information on the prevalence of mental diseases in Austria is limited and comparability between studies is restricted. A variety of diagnostic instruments, targeted populations and investigated diseases contribute to discrepancies in the prevalence rates. A systematic, large-scale study on the prevalence of mental diseases in Austria is needed for comprehensive and robust epidemiological evidence.

Analgosedation of adult patients with elevated intracranial pressure : Survey of current clinical practice in Austria.
Analgesia and sedation are key items in intensive care. Recently published S3 guidelines specifically address treatment of patients with elevated intracranial pressure. ⋯ We found good general compliance with the recommendations of the current S3 guidelines. Room for improvement exists in monitoring and the use of scores to detect delirium.

Commuter exposure to fine and ultrafine particulate matter in Vienna.
Mass concentrations PM10, PM2.5, PM1, particle number concentrations of ultrafine particles and lung deposited surface area were measured during commutes with a subway, tram, bus, car and bicycle in Vienna for the first time. Obtained data were examined for significant differences in personal exposure when using various transport modalities along similar routes. Mean PM2.5 and PM1 mass concentrations were significantly higher in the subway when compared to buses. ⋯ Car and bus passengers could be better isolated from ambient fine particulate matter than passengers in the subway, where a lot of ventilation occurs through open windows and larger doors. Tram passengers and cyclists might be exposed to increased amounts of ultrafine particles and larger lung deposited surface area due to a closer proximity to road traffic. Comparing cumulative exposure along the same route length leads to different results and favors faster traffic modes, such as the subway.
