Homeopathy was first postulated by the German physician Samuel Hahnemann in 1796 and 220 years later homeopathy is the most popular and widespread alternative medicine. Partly, it is also part of the national healthcare and insurance systems but homeopathy is not without controversy within the medical and healthcare community. Its implausible basic assumptions, some of which contradict natural laws, do not lead us to expect that its remedies have any specific effect. ⋯ The medical irrelevance of the sham method of homeopathy has been proven with more than sufficient probability [2]. As a major testimonial, the statement "Homeopathic products and practices" of the European (EASAC 2017) can be regarded. The primary aim of this brief report is therefore not to take another look at homeopathy from a medical scientific perspective, but rather focus attention on the implications of the still continuous and largely uncritically accepted existence of this method in medical practice, in the medical scientific sphere and in the judgement of the general public.

ReviewHypertensive response to exercise, hypertension and heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF)-a continuum of disease?
Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) has been shown to be a long-term consequence of uncontrolled arterial hypertension (aHT). Other than that, hypertensive response to exercise (HRE) precedes aHT. We aim to evaluate the available evidence for a continuum of HRE, aHT and HFpEF. ⋯ The literature search revealed suggestive data on a connection of HRE, aHT and HFpEF. HRE seems to be an independent risk factor for aHT and aHT in turn is one of the main risk factors for HFpEF. However, further research is needed to improve our knowledge of a possible continuum of disease.

No association of NAFLD-related polymorphisms in PNPLA3 and TM6SF2 with all-cause and cardiovascular mortality in an Austrian population study.
Single-nucleotide-polymorphisms in PNPLA3-rs738409 and the TM6SF2-rs58542926, associated with metabolic-dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD), have been discussed as potentially protective for cardiovascular diseases. Therefore, we aimed to study the associations of PNPLA3/TM6SF2 variants with MAFLD and cardiovascular risk in a population-based sample of asymptomatic patients. ⋯ Carriage of PNPLA3/TM6SF2 risk alleles could not be identified as significant factor for all-cause or cardiovascular mortality in asymptomatic middle-aged individuals undergoing screening colonoscopy.

Axillary lymph node status and invasive lobular breast cancer : Analysis of the Clinical Tumor Register of the AGO Austria.
Invasive lobular carcinoma (ILC) represents the second most common type of invasive breast cancer (BC). Although ILC generally have good prognostic properties (positive estrogen receptor, ER, low tumor grade), they are generally diagnosed at a more advanced stage. The data on the axillary lymph node status in ILC compared to invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC) are considered controversial. Therefore, the aim of this study was to compare the pathological node stage (pN) between ILC and IDC in an Austria-wide register. ⋯ The data show an increased risk of extensive axillary lymph node metastasis (pN2/3) in ILC.

Predictors of walking capacity in patients with peripheral arterial disease.
Walking capacity is severely impaired in patients with peripheral arterial disease (PAD). Given the prognostic importance of walking capacity, the level of evidence on possible predictors of walking capacity in patients with PAD is insufficient. ⋯ This study demonstrated that functional mobility and fatigue were independent predictors of walking capacity in patients with PAD. Both subjective and objective measurement methods can be used for determining the level of walking capacity in the patients with PAD.
