Outcomes following childhood head injury: a population study.
To identify outcomes following head injury (HI) among a population of children admitted to one hospital centre and to compare outcomes between different severity groups. ⋯ Children admitted with mild HI may be at risk of poor outcomes, but often do not receive routine hospital follow up. A postal questionnaire combined with the KOSCHI to assess outcomes after HI may be used to identify children who would benefit from clinical assessment. Further research is needed to identify factors that place children with mild HI at risk of late morbidity.

Clinical characteristics of multiple sclerosis in Västerbotten County in northern Sweden.
Most clinical data for multiple sclerosis are hospital based-that is, derived from patients referred to clinics specialising in the disease. ⋯ Based on the comparison of present and earlier natural history data, multiple sclerosis appears to be a slightly more benign disease than previously recognised.

Case ReportsX-linked adrenoleukodystrophy presenting as autosomal dominant pure hereditary spastic paraparesis.
We present a family in which an initial clinical diagnosis of autosomal dominant pure hereditary spastic paraparesis (HSP) was made on the basis of a three generation pedigree in which both males and females presented with a spastic paraparesis. Subsequent biochemical and genetic analysis revealed that the family was in fact affected by the adrenomyeloneuropathy subtype of X-linked adrenoleukodystrophy. In the family described, both males and females were affected by a spastic paraparesis, and there was no male to male transmission, consistent with both autosomal dominant and X-linked inheritance. This report illustrates the importance of assaying very long chain fatty acids (VLCFAs) in any HSP family where there is no male to male transmission.

Multidimensional assessment of personality in patients with psychogenic non-epileptic seizures.
To determine whether patients with psychogenic non-epileptic seizures (PNES) have evidence of maladaptive personality, and whether they have a single or several different typical pathological personality profiles. ⋯ Maladaptive personality is common in patients with PNES. PNES are associated with several distinct profiles of pathological personality. This is relevant because outcome differed between profiles.

Arterial oxygen saturation, COPD, and cerebral small vessel disease.
To study whether lower arterial oxygen saturation (SaO(2)) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are associated with cerebral white matter lesions and lacunar infarcts. ⋯ Lower SaO(2) and COPD are associated with more severe periventricular white matter lesions.
