Imidazoline I(2) receptor density increases with the malignancy of human gliomas.
Current glioma grading schemes are limited by subjective histological criteria. Imidazoline I(2) receptors are principally expressed on glial cells. ⋯ These results suggest that the density of imidazoline I(2) receptors may be a useful radioligand parameter for the differentiation of glial tumours from other types of brain tumours and for grading the different gliomas.

Case ReportsTreatment of anterior canal benign paroxysmal positional vertigo by a prolonged forced position procedure.
This report presents a therapeutic procedure for refractory benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (antBPPV) of the anterior canal. Two patients with refractory antBPPV were treated by a prolonged forced position procedure (PFPP). The technique is based on the assumption that the pathophysiological mechanism of antBPPV is similar to that generating posterior canal canalolithiasis. ⋯ The rationale for this therapy is that when the patient lies in the proposed forced position, the affected anterior canal is uppermost in an almost gravitationally vertical position. If the patient remains in this position for several hours, the floating particles lying in the non-ampullary arm of the canal can gradually slip out of the canal towards the vestibule due to gravity. We recommend trying PFPP when the side of lithiasis cannot be determined, in cases that are resistant to particle repositioning canal manoeuvres, and before considering canal plugging for refractory antBPPV.

Correlation of clinical findings, collision parameters, and psychological factors in the outcome of whiplash associated disorders.
To determine prognostic factors for the duration and severity of acute symptoms in subjects with grade 1 or 2 whiplash injuries. ⋯ Psychological factors were found to be more relevant than collision severity in predicting the duration and severity of symptoms in collision victims with grade 1 or 2 whiplash associated disorders.

Chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy: decreased claudin-5 and relocated ZO-1.
To clarify the dynamics of molecules composing the blood-nerve barrier (BNB) in inflammatory neuropathies. ⋯ The downregulation of claudin-5 and altered localisation of ZO-1 seen in CIDP specimens may indicate that BNB derangement occurs in inflammatory neuropathies. Further investigation of TJ molecules may suggest new treatments based on properties of the BNB.

Association between apolipoprotein E e4 allele and arteriosclerosis, cerebral amyloid angiopathy, and cerebral white matter damage in Alzheimer's disease.
To investigate the association between white matter damage, as evidenced by myelin loss (ML), the extent of cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA), or arteriosclerosis (Art), and apolipoprotein E (ApoE) e4 allele in Alzheimer's disease (AD), in order to understand the causes of damage to white matter in AD and its contribution to the pathogenesis of the disorder. ⋯ The likelihood of patients with AD suffering from CAA, Art, or ML is not influenced by ApoE e4 allele, nor is the overall burden of these pathological changes in the brain. However, the distribution of ML, CAA, and Art within the brain is at least partly influenced by genotype and dosage of ApoE e4 allele, with the occipital cortex being more severely affected by all of these pathological changes in e4 allele bearers, particularly when two ApoE e4 alleles are present.
