We aimed to identify some pivotal genes and pathways for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) transformation from cirrhosis and explore potential targets for treatment of the disease. ⋯ CDK1, PBK, RRM2, and ASPM may be key genes for HCC transformation from cirrhosis. Furthermore, cell cycle and p53 signaling pathways may play vital mediatory roles; CDK1 may play crucial roles in HCC transformed from cirrhosis via cell cycle and p53 signaling pathways, and RRM2 might be involved in HCC transformed from cirrhosis via the p53 signaling pathway.

Diagnostic value of 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose uptake parameters to differentiate rheumatoid arthritis from other types of arthritis.
We aimed evaluate F-fluorodeoxyglucose uptake at major joints for differentiating patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) from those with non-RA arthritis using F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG)-positron emission tomography (PET). Eighteen patients with RA (13 women; age, 66.8 ± 13.2 years) and 17 patients with non-RA (6 women; age, 50.8 ± 12.5 years) were included. Twelve joints of each patient were examined: shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee, and ankle on both sides. ⋯ Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis revealed that total VS had the highest area under curve (.92), with sensitivity and specificity of 88.9% and 76.4%, respectively. Quantitative PET parameters could differentiate RA from non-RA. Total VS score, however, appears to be the best convenient qualitative tool for diagnosing RA.

Correlation between respiratory function and spine and thorax deformity in children with mild scoliosis.
Idiopathic scoliosis (IS) is the most common 3-dimensional deformation abnormality of the spine with direct effects on the thoracic cage and can potentially affect respiratory function. The purpose of the present study was to recognize whether the 3-dimensional displacement of the spine and trunk as a consequence of IS directly influences and diminishes respiratory function in children with mild IS. The study involved 68 children aged 10 to 12 years with mild thoracic or thoracolumbar IS who were the outpatients of the local Center for Corrective Gymnastics. ⋯ It was observed that VC in children with mild IS of 20 to 30 degree depended on thoracic kyphosis, that is, length, depth, and the thoracic kyphosis length/depth indicator. The results of performed study showed that in children with mild IS the lung volumes are reduced not only by an increased angle of the lateral curvature but also by the degree of loss of normal thoracic kyphosis. The regular respiratory function testing and back-shape analysis are advisable in children with thoracic and thoracolumbar mild IS.

Impact of serum SP-A and SP-D levels on comparison and prognosis of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) has a poor prognosis in general; however, it is heterogeneous to detect relative biomarkers for predicting the disease progression. Serum biomarkers can be conveniently collected to detect and help to differentially diagnose IPF and predict IPF prognosis. This meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the use of serum surfactant proteins A and D (SP-A and SP-D) for differential diagnosis and prognosis of IPF. ⋯ Serum SP-A/D detection might be useful for differential diagnosis and prediction of survival in patients with IPF.

Propofol decreases etomidate-related myoclonus in gastroscopy.
Myoclonus, a common complication during intravenous induction with etomidate, is bothersome to both anesthesiologists and patients. This study explored the preventive effect of pretreatment with propofol on etomidate-related myoclonus. ⋯ Pretreatment with propofol was feasible for preventing etomidate-related myoclonus. Furthermore, as propofol dosage increased, its effect on reducing the incidence and severity of myoclonic movements induced by etomidate increased.
