A comparison of three methods of pain control for posterior spinal fusions in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis.
Retrospective cohort study. ⋯ An EPI controls postoperative pain for the longest period of time and allows for a quicker return to consumption of solid foods. However, a single preoperative intrathecal morphine injection controls the pain equally for the first 24 hours with less pruritus and with less adverse events thus requiring less nursing and physician intervention after PSF and SSI in AIS. All methods were safe with no neurologic injury recorded.

Intramuscular oxygen-ozone therapy in the treatment of acute back pain with lumbar disc herniation: a multicenter, randomized, double-blind, clinical trial of active and simulated lumbar paravertebral injection.
Multicenter randomized, double-blind, simulated therapy-controlled trial in a cohort of patients with acute low back pain (LBP) due to lumbar disc herniation (LDH). ⋯ Treatment of LBP and sciatica is a major concern. Although the natural history of acute LBP is often self-limiting, conservative therapies are not always effective; in such cases, O2O3 intramuscular lumbar paravertebral injections, which are minimally invasive, seem to safely and effectively relieve pain, as well as reduce both disability and the intake of analgesic drugs.

Nucleus replacement with the DASCOR disc arthroplasty device: interim two-year efficacy and safety results from two prospective, non-randomized multicenter European studies.
A prospective, nonrandomized multicenter study of lumbar disc nucleus replacement using the DASCOR Disc Arthroplasty Device. An interim analysis of clinical results is presented, obtained from European patients enrolled in 2 studies. ⋯ The interim outcomes showed significant improvements in mean ODI and VAS scores. The results of these European studies suggest that the DASCOR Device may be a safe and effective less-invasive surgical option for patients with DDD.

Treatment of spondylodiscitis in human immunodeficiency virus-infected patients: a comparison of conservative and operative therapy.
Multicenter retrospective case series. ⋯ The occurrence of spondylodiscitis in HIV-positive patients is associated with a low CD4 T-cell count. The probability of mixed infections rises with a CD4 T-cell count <100/microL. The occurrence of spondylodiscitis in HIV-positive patients is accompanied by high mortality. Operative therapy of spondylodiscitis in HIV-positive patients is not associated with an increased surgical complication rate. HIV infection or AIDS should not have an influence on decision-making regarding conservative or operative therapy of spondylodiscitis.
