An association study between radiologic measurements and cosmetic appearance in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) patients with Lenke 5 and 6 curve types. ⋯ The present study showed that a number of radiologic indices could only partially reflect the objective cosmetic appearances in Lenke type 5 and 6 curves in AIS. Spine surgeons should put more emphasis in the clinical cosmetic evaluations and not relying solely on the radiologic assessment in AIS.

Biomechanical roles of anterior and posterior portions of the disc (AD and PD, respectively) in governing posterior facets (PF) behavior of a C5-C6 motion segment. ⋯ The current study conclusions suggest a possible mechanism for PF loading through loss and gain in the AD and PD heights during moderate and severe grades of DD. Further cervical spine based biomechanical investigations are suggested to verify our findings.

Prospective cohort evaluation of C7 plumb line (C7PL) and gravity line (GL) in different standing positions in asymptomatic volunteers. ⋯ The GL measurement was highly reproducible in both PA and lateral views. The repeatability was similar between C7PL and GL despite the standing positions in the PA view. The repeatability of GL was better than that of C7PL in all 3 standing positions in the lateral view. The effect of standing positions was much less in GL than in C7PL.

The incidence and risk factors of postoperative delirium were retrospectively examined in patients who had spine surgery for degenerative lumbar disease. ⋯ History of cerebral vascular disease, low hemoglobin and hematocrit levels at 1 day after surgery, and bad nutritional status were risk factors for delirium. As it is of great concern in older patients, careful observation is necessary for the management of patients with risk factors for delirium.

Clearance of the cervical spine in clinically unevaluable trauma patients.
Meta-analytic costeffectiveness analysis. ⋯ As currently used, neuroimaging studies for cervical spinal clearance in clinically unevaluable patients are not cost-effective compared with empirical immobilization in a semirigid collar.
