Prophylactic negative pressure wound therapy for closed laparotomy wounds: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials.
Surgical site infections are a common source of post-operative morbidity and contribute significantly to healthcare costs. Patients undergoing emergency laparotomy and/or bowel surgery are particularly at risk. Prophylactic negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) has been shown to reduce wound infection. ⋯ Both skin dehiscence and fascial dehiscence were slightly higher in the standard dressing group ((4.2%, n = 11/263 versus 3.1% (n = 8/261) and (0.9% (n = 3/324) versus 0.6% (n = 2/323)), respectively. This study observed that NPWT reduces the overall SSI for closed laparotomy wounds. It supports data recommending the use of prophylactic NPWT dressings, especially in high-risk patients in both emergency and elective circumstances.

The prevalence of premenstrual dysphoric disorder among adolescents in Ethiopia: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
The rates of prevalence of premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) in Ethiopia were high and inconsistent across studies. However, there was no previous systematic reviews and meta-analysis conducted on this topic. Therefore, this review aimed to systematically review previous studies on the topic and summarize the prevalence of PMDD among students in Ethiopia and formulate recommendations for future clinical services. ⋯ Further, the pooled estimated prevalence of premenstrual dysphoric disorder was ranging from 51.2 to 57.2% in leave-one-out sensitivity analysis, suggesting that the removal of one study did not affect the overall prevalence estimate. The pooled estimated prevalence of premenstrual dysphoric disorder among female students in Ethiopia was high. Early screening and appropriate interventions at primary healthcare settings are warranted.

The prevalence of depression in patients living with implantable cardioverter defibrillator: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Depression is a common disorder in patients with implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD). There are a variety of studies estimated the prevalence of depression in these patients. The present study aimed to investigate the prevalence of depression in patients with ICD.

To study the effect of nicorandil on prognosis of patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). ⋯ Nicorandil can improve coronary microcirculation and left ventricular function of patients with AMI after PCI. Interestingly, female patients may benefit more from nicorandil than male patients in improving heart function.

Angiotensin II receptor blockers for the treatment of portal hypertension in patients with liver cirrhosis: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) showed inconsistent results regarding the efficacy of angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs) on portal pressure as indicated by hepatic venous pressure gradient (HVPG). ⋯ ARBs did not reduce portal pressure in patients with cirrhosis; moreover, the risk of symptomatic hypotension may increase.
