Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical Trial[Neostigmine added to bupivacaine in axillary plexus block: which benefit?].
Recent study showed that neostigmine (500 microg) by intra-articular produces postoperative analgesia without adverse effect. The author's goal was to determine whether 500 microg of neostigmine added to bupivacaine in axillary plexus block could prolonged postoperative analgesia without increasing the incidence of side effects. ⋯ Neostigmine combined to a mixture of lidocaine and bupivacaine prolongs postoperative analgesia after axillary plexus block.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study Clinical Trial[Effects of equiosmolar load of 20% mannitol, 7.5% saline and 0.9% saline on plasma osmolarity, haemodynamics and plasma concentrations of electrolytes].
Mannitol 20% (M) and NaCl 7.5% (H) are hypertonic solutions used in-patient in hypovolaemic shock and in case of increased ICP. To our knowledge no study in humans compared them in an equiosmolar load. The objectives of this study were to compare the pharmacokinetics of both solutions in an equiosmolar load with an isotonic solution (NaCl 0.9% (C)) in terms of osmolarity, electrolytes and haemodynamic parameters over time. ⋯ A single infusion of 4.95 mOsm kg(-1) of mannitol 20% or NaCl 7.5% induces a similar osmolar variation over time with a maximal effect after 10 min.

Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical Trial[Rapid sequence intubation in emergency: is there any place for fentanyl?].
Rapid sequence intubation (RSI) with the association of etomidate and succinylcholine is the French "Gold standard" for urgent "full stomach" endotracheal intubations. The aim of this study is to assess the fentanyl as a co-induction agent to take over the sedation between the RSI and the keeping of sedation, which is a critical period in which harmful neuro-vegetatives events, and awakening signs are frequently seen. ⋯ The use of fentanyl, as a co-induction agent with etomidate and succinylcholine during RSI, allows a significant delay of the awakening signs arrival and attenuate the neurovegetative response during the minutes after endotracheal intubation after RSI, without deleterious haemodynamic effects.

Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical Trial[Bilateral ilioinguinal nerve block for ambulatory varicocele surgery].
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of bilateral ilioinguinal-iliohypogastric nerve blocks for pain relief following ambulatory bilateral varicocelectomy. ⋯ Ilioinguinal nerve block is effective in controlling pain after bilateral varicocelectomy in ambulatory surgery.
