The primary aim was to determine women's representation as authors in emergency medicine journals in various authorship positions over the last 20 years. The secondary aim was to compare the two decades to analyze the development over time. ⋯ Results of this study are promising in showing that the representation of women in emergency medicine publications is rising during the recent decade. Although the academic gender gap has not been closed, steps taken for gender equality in academic emergency medicine are clearly notable.

Long-term consequences of electrical injury without initial signs of severity: The AFTER-ELEC study.
There is no specificity of emergency or long-term management of benign electrical injuries (EI). The main objective of our work was to describe the occurrence of long-term complications of EI considered as benign. ⋯ all health professionals involved in the care of victims of a EI must be made widely aware of the occurrence of these long-term complications, particularly neuropsychological ones, in order to improve the long-term patient care.

Unintentional injury remains the leading cause of death for adults worldwide. We aimed to investigate the rates and distribution of dead on arrival (DOA) patients according to emergency medical services (EMS) mode of transport (MoT), EMS transport time (TT), injury severity score (ISS), and type of injury. ⋯ Helicopter emergency medical service use with intermediate and severely injured patients with penetrating injuries is associated with a reduced number of DOAs. Future studies should prospectively investigate EMS performance to confirm the findings identified in this retrospective analysis. Additionally, other factors affecting pre-hospital EMS performance (e.g., geographic variations, weather-related characteristics, in-flight interventions/procedures) should be investigated. Finally, the results of this study highlight the need for standardized HEMS utilization triage criteria.

To evaluate leg-heel chest compression without previous training as an alternative for medical professionals and its effects on distance to potential aerosol spread during chest compression. ⋯ Under special circumstances like COVID-19-pandemic, leg-heel chest compression may be an effective alternative without previous training compared to manual chest compression while markedly increasing the distance to the patient.

Nitroglycerin (NTG) is a vasodilator used in the prehospital setting with chest pain patients. Potential adverse effects include hypotension, bradycardia or tachycardia, and mental status change. However, it is unclear which factors, if any, are associated with patients having an adverse event after receiving NTG. The objective of this study was to determine demographic and clinical factors associated with adverse events after prehospital NTG administration. ⋯ Adverse events following prehospital NTG administration were rare, especially in patients with an SBP > 110 and a HR < 100, and less frequent in those with existing IV access. Demographics were not found to be clinically significant.
