Prognostic value of cardiac troponin in elderly patients with paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia: A multicenter study.
An elevated level of cardiac troponin I (cTnI) frequently accompanies an episode of supraventricular tachycardia (SVT). However, the predictive value of cTnI in elderly SVT patients has not been examined. ⋯ An increased cardiac troponin level may not effectively indicate the risk of MACE in elderly SVT patients. Physicians might want to be cautious when interpreting troponin test results for this specific patient group.

Are serial neuron-specific enolase levels associated with neurologic outcome of ECPR patients: A retrospective multicenter observational study.
This study aims to evaluate whether neuron-specific enolase (NSE) level at 48 h after extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation (ECPR) is associated with neurologic outcomes at 6 months after hospital discharge. ⋯ NSE level at 72 h displayed the highest association with neurologic outcome after ECPR, and NSE level at 48 h was also associated with neurologic outcome after ECPR.

Incidence of rescue surgical airways after attempted orotracheal intubation in the emergency department: A National Emergency Airway Registry (NEAR) Study.
Cricothyrotomy is a critical technique for rescue of the failed airway in the emergency department (ED). Since the adoption of video laryngoscopy, the incidence of rescue surgical airways (those performed after at least one unsuccessful orotracheal or nasotracheal intubation attempt), and the circumstances where they are attempted, has not been characterized. ⋯ Rescue surgical airways occurred infrequently in the ED (0.28% [0.21 to 0.37]), with approximately half performed due to a trauma indication. These results may have implications for surgical airway skill acquisition, maintenance, and experience.

Early unplanned return visits to pediatric emergency departments in Israel during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic.
During the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic there was a considerable drop in the number of visits to Pediatric Emergency Departments (PED). Unplanned return visits (URV) might represent inadequate emergency care. We assessed the impact of the pandemic on early URV to PEDs in Israel. ⋯ In our study, early URV to PED's were only mildly influenced by the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic.

Intranasal ketamine for procedural sedation in children: An open-label multicenter clinical trial.
There are limited options for pain and distress management in children undergoing minor procedures, without the burden of an intravenous line insertion. Prior to this study, we conducted a dose-escalation study and identified 6 mg/kg as a potentially optimal initial dose of intranasal ketamine. ⋯ ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT03053947).
