What's the optimal temperature control strategy in patients receiving ECPR after cardiac arrest? A network meta-analysis.
The optimal temperature control strategy in extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation (ECPR) patients is unknown, and several trials have reported conflicting results regarding its effectiveness. We aimed to conduct a systemic review and network meta-analysis (NMA) to assess the efficacy of temperature control in ECPR patients. ⋯ Direct evidence suggests that moderate hypothermia might be associated with improved neurological outcomes in ECPR patients. However, no significant differences in survival outcomes were observed in either the direct or NMA results. Given the lower level of the evidence, interpretation should be made with caution.

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) afflicts 69 million individuals annually, resulting in numerous neuropsychiatric sequelae. Here, we investigate the possible relation between TBI and depression. ⋯ Individuals suffering from TBI are almost twice as likely to develop depressive symptomology compared to non-TBI individuals.

Association between helicopter medical services for pediatric trauma patients and mortality: Systematic review and meta-analysis.
Helicopter emergency medical services (HEMS) have become widespread around the world. However, previous studies of the influence of HEMS on mortality were limited to adult patients only and showed inconsistent and heterogeneous results. This study aimed to examine the association between HEMS and mortality among pediatric emergencies compared to ground emergency medical service (GEMS). ⋯ Our systematic review and meta-analysis, which was limited to trauma pediatric trauma patients, revealed that HEMS deployment correlated with decreased mortality. Further research is necessary to more effectively measure the potential influence and applicability of HEMS for pediatric emergencies.

Defibrillation strategies for patients with refractory ventricular fibrillation: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
The aim of this study was to summarize the existing evidence about the effectiveness of double defibrillation (DD) in comparison to standard defibrillation for patients with refractory ventricular fibrillation (RVF). DD encompasses double "sequential" external defibrillation (DSeq-D) and double "simultaneous" defibrillation (DSim-D), with the study also shedding light on the respective effects of DSeq-D and DSim-D. ⋯ The benefit of DSeq-D in survival to hospital discharge for RVF patients was found in the RCT, but not in cohort studies. Additionally, DSim-D should be applied with greater caution for RVF patients. Further validation is needed through larger-scale and higher-quality trials.

Diagnostic accuracy of 3-item stroke scale for detection of cerebral large vessel occlusion: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Prompt identification of large vessel occlusion (LVO) in acute ischemic stroke (AIS) is crucial for expedited endovascular therapy (EVT) and improved patient outcomes. Prehospital stroke scales, such as the 3-Item Stroke Scale (3I-SS), could be beneficial in detecting LVO in suspected patients. This meta-analysis evaluates the diagnostic accuracy of 3I-SS for LVO detection in AIS. ⋯ 3I-SS demonstrates good diagnostic accuracy in identifying LVO stroke and may be valuable in the prompt identification of patients for direct transfer to comprehensive stroke centers.
