Optimizing emergency department care transitions to outpatient settings: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Suboptimal transitions from the emergency department (ED) to outpatient settings can result in poor care continuity, and subsequently higher costs to the healthcare system. We aimed to systematically review care transition interventions (CTIs) for adult patients to understand how effective ED-based CTIs are in reducing return visits to the ED and increasing follow-up visits with primary care physicians. ⋯ ED-based CTIs do not appear to reduce ED revisit or hospital admission after ED discharge but are effective in increasing follow-up.

The efficacy of inhaled hypertonic saline for bronchiectasis: a meta-analysis of randomized controlled studies.
The efficacy of inhaled hypertonic saline for bronchiectasis remains controversial. We conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis to explore the influence of inhaled hypertonic saline versus 0.9% isotonic saline for the treatment of bronchiectasis. ⋯ Inhaled hypertonic saline and 0.9% isotonic saline show similar efficacy for bronchiectasis.

Diagnostic value of CT contrast extravasation for major arterial injury after pelvic fracture: A meta-analysis.
We conducted a meta-analysis to determine diagnostic performance of CT intravenous contrast extravasation (CE) as a sign of angiographic bleeding and need for angioembolization after pelvic fractures. ⋯ The pooled sensitivity and specificity of 64-row CT was 94 and 89%. 64 row CT improves sensitivity of CE, which was 69% using lower detector row scanners. High specificity (92%) can be maintained by incorporating multiphasic scan protocols.

Complication of vasopressor infusion through peripheral venous catheter: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Vasopressors are mainstay treatment for patients in shock and are usually infused through central venous catheters (CVCs). However, CVCs are associated with risk of infection or delay from the needs of confirmation of placement. Infusing vasopressor through peripheral venous catheter (PIVs) could be an alternative in the Emergency Departments (ED) but data regarding complications is inconclusive. We performed a random-effects meta-analysis to assess literature involving prevalence of complications from infusing vasopressors via PIVs. ⋯ There was low prevalence of complications as a direct result from infusing vasopressors through PIVs. Studies with safety guidelines were associated with significantly lower prevalence of complications. Further studies are needed to confirm our observations.

Since the first case of the pneumonia caused by 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19) is found in Wuhan, there have been more than 70,000 cases reported in China. This study aims to perform the meta-analysis of risk factors for the case fatality rate (CFR) of the 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19). ⋯ Several factors are confirmed to significantly improve the CFR in patients with COVID-19, which is very important for the treatment and good prognosis of these patients.
