Novel Data Linkages to Characterize Palliative and End-of-Life Care: Challenges and Considerations.
Working groups have called for linkages of existing and diverse databases to improve quality measurement in palliative and end-of-life (EOL) care, but limited data are available on the challenges of using different data sources to measure such care. ⋯ We found substantial variation between EHR and claims for EOL health-care use. Reliance on EHR will miss some health-care use, while claims will not capture the complex clinical details in EHR that can help define the quality of palliative care and EOL health-care utilization.

Review Meta AnalysisThe effect of exercise on quality of life, fatigue, physical function and safety in advanced solid tumor cancers: a meta-analysis of randomized control trials.
People with metastatic cancers experience poor quality of life (QoL), fatigue, and decreased physical function. Exercise improves these symptoms in the curative setting, but the efficacy and safety of exercise in the metastatic setting is uncertain. ⋯ Exercise is associated with clinically meaningful improvements in QoL, function, and 6-MWT in some patients with metastatic cancer. Despite poor reporting of safety, there was no signal of increased harm from exercise in this setting.

Priority Symptoms, Causes, and Self-Management Strategies Reported by AYAs with Cancer.
Cancer and symptom experiences of adolescents and young adults (AYAs) with cancer can be highly variable, creating challenges for clinicians and researchers who seek to optimize AYAs' health outcomes. Understanding the heuristics AYAs use to designate priority symptoms can provide insight into the meaning they assign to their symptoms and self-management behaviors. ⋯ Supporting AYAs to identify their priority symptoms may facilitate a more personalized approach to care. Seeking the patient's perspective regarding priority symptoms could enhance patient-clinician collaboration in symptom management.

Palliative Care Opportunities Among Adults with Congenital Heart Disease - A Systematic Review.
Little is known about advance care planning (ACP) and palliative care needs among adults with congenital heart disease (ACHD). ⋯ While few ACHD patients complete advance directives, our findings support that many ACHD patients recognize the value of initiating end-of-life and goals of care conversations early on in the course of illness. Future studies investigating communication and implementation strategies of ACP as well as the symptom experience of patients with ACHD are needed.
