Review Case ReportsSublingual Buprenorphine for Pediatric Cancer Pain: A Case Report and Review of the Literature.
Pain is a common symptom in pediatric patients with cancer, and most patients in palliative care will receive opioids. Traditional opioids have several drawbacks, including their adverse effects, inconsistent or diminishing efficacy, and limited available routes of administration. ⋯ Unfortunately, data supporting the use of buprenorphine in pediatric pain patients, particularly SL buprenorphine, are lacking. This case report describes the feasibility of SL buprenorphine use in pediatric patients with complex cancer-related pain.

ReviewGaining Palliative Medicine subspecialty recognition and Fellowship Accreditation in Jordan.
Palliative medicine (PM) has gained subspecialty recognition in many countries during the past two decades. Jordan is one of the first Arab countries to gain accreditation for the specialty. ⋯ Key factors enabling accreditation to happen in Jordan were strong leadership, persistence, collaboration with major stakeholders, and seeking out opportunities to promote the specialty. Our experience and lessons learnt are transferable to other countries and may prove beneficial to others aiming to gain subspecialty recognition for PM.

ReviewThe effect of caregiver-facilitated pain management interventions in hospitalized patients on patient, caregiver, provider and health system outcomes: A systematic review.

Association between "Unacceptable Condition" Expressed in Palliative Care Consultation before Left Ventricular Assist Device Implantation and Care Received at the End of Life.
Palliative care consultation before left ventricular assist device (LVAD) surgery (PreVAD) has been recommended, but its impact on goal-concordant care is unknown. ⋯ Patients who articulated their unacceptable condition clearly before LVAD surgery had less frequent ethics consultations and received less intensive care at the end of life, but it did not seem to affect the decision of LVAD withdrawal. It may be more important to engage in discussions around their unacceptable conditions, rather than the specific condition articulated. The question of an unacceptable condition should be part of any routine palliative care consultation before LVAD surgery.
