Multicenter Study Observational StudyEarly glycemia and mortality in critically ill septic patients: Interaction with insulin-treated diabetes.
To investigate the relationship between dysglycemia and hospital mortality in patients with and without a preadmission diagnosis of insulin treated diabetes mellitus (ITDM). ⋯ Septic patients with a pre-existing diagnosis of ITDM show a different relationship between hospital mortality and highest glucose levels and glycemic variability in the first 24 h than those without ITDM. These findings provide a rationale for an ITDM-specific approach to the management of dysglycemia.

Multicenter Study Observational StudyThe impact of organ dysfunctions on mortality in patients with severe sepsis: A multicenter prospective observational study.
Disseminated intravascular coagulations (DIC), acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), and acute kidney injury (AKI) are major organ dysfunctions that occur in patients with sepsis. This study aimed to elucidate the impact of these organ dysfunctions on mortality in patients with severe sepsis. ⋯ DIC and AKI are frequent complications in patients with severe sepsis. In this study, DIC, and AKI stage 3 were independent risk factors of in-hospital mortality.

Observational StudyCharacteristics, incidence, and outcome of patients admitted to the intensive care unit with myasthenia gravis.
There are limited data on the characteristics, incidence, and mortality of patients with myasthenia gravis (MG) admitted to the ICU. ⋯ In ANZ, the ICU and population incidence of MG has increased over the last decade. However, its mortality rate was low.

Prediction of parental posttraumatic stress, anxiety and depression after a child's critical hospitalization.
To study the role of parental resilience, emotions accessed during admission and perceived stress in predicting the degree of parental posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety and depression symptoms after a child's treatment in intensive care. ⋯ Mobilizing coping in order to maintain resilience and to decrease their perceived stress levels could improve parents' mental health outcomes following their child's intensive care treatment.

Observational StudyDysphagia and laryngeal pathology in post-surgical cardiothoracic patients.
Cardiothoracic surgery is known to result in dysphagia and laryngeal injury. While prevalence has been explored, extent, trajectory and longevity of symptoms are poorly understood. This retrospective, observational study explored dysphagia and laryngeal injury in patients following cardiothoracic surgery referred for instrumental swallowing assessment. ⋯ Early endoscopic assessment for identification of dysphagia and laryngeal injury in patients following cardiothoracic surgery may allow early management and prevention of secondary complications.
