Clinical implications of pretreatment inflammatory biomarkers as independent prognostic indicators in prostate cancer.
Research on the relationship between inflammatory biomarkers and malignant tumors has become a hotspot. Many studies have demonstrated that neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and red blood cell distribution width (RDW) could act as independent prognostic indicators for several solid tumors. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical implications of pretreatment inflammatory biomarkers, including NLR, PLR, and RDW as independent prognostic indicators in prostate cancer (PCa). ⋯ The pretreatment NLR and PLR might be beneficial to predict the progression and prognosis of PCa. Furthermore, NLR was more effective than PLR acting as an independent prognostic indicator for PCa.

Quality specifications of routine clinical chemistry methods based on sigma metrics in performance evaluation.
Sigma metrics were applied to evaluate the performance of 20 routine chemistry assays, and individual quality control criteria were established based on the sigma values of different assays. ⋯ Sigma metrics are an optimal tool to evaluate the performance of different assays. An assay with a high value could use a simple internal quality control rule, while an assay with a low value should be monitored strictly.
