Guanidinoacetic acid with creatine compared with creatine alone for tissue creatine content, hyperhomocysteinemia, and exercise performance: A randomized, double-blind superiority trial.
Co-administration of creatine and guanidinoacetic acid (GAA) has been recently put forward as an advanced dietary strategy to optimize tissue bioenergetics. We hypothesized that creatine-GAA mixture would result in a more powerful rise in brain and skeletal muscle creatine, as compared to creatine supplementation alone. ⋯ Creatine-GAA mixture appeared to be superior to creatine alone for up-swinging tissue creatine content and upper body strength, and tended toward a lower risk of weight gain in healthy active men. The formulation might be considered as a novel energy-boosting alternative to creatine alone in weight-sensitive setups.

Phosphorus ingestion with a high-carbohydrate meal increased the postprandial energy expenditure of obese and lean individuals.
Phosphorus ingestion with glucose was reported to stimulate the postprandial peripheral uptake of both phosphorus and glucose, a process that favors energy production. The aim of this study was to determine whether phosphorus ingestion with a meal can affect energy metabolism. ⋯ Phosphorus ingestion with a high-carbohydrate meal alters postprandial energy metabolism mainly by enhancing postprandial energy expenditure that may ultimatly favor weight loss.

Olive oil lessened fatty liver severity independent of cardiometabolic correction in patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease: A randomized clinical trial.
Olive oil has health benefits for the correction of metabolic diseases. We aimed to evaluate the effect of olive oil consumption on the severity of fatty liver and cardiometabolic markers in patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. ⋯ Olive oil may alleviate the severity of fatty liver independent of correcting cardiometabolic risk factors. Low-calorie diets may benefit patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease additionally through mitigation of obesity, blood pressure, and liver enzymes.

Vitamin D deficiency and mild to moderate anemia in young North Indian children: A secondary data analysis.
The aim of this study was to examine the association between vitamin D deficiency and anemia status among young children in the resource-poor setting of northern urban India. ⋯ Vitamin D deficiency was associated with moderate anemia among young children and the effect was independent of iron deficiency. The causal association of vitamin D deficiency with anemia risk remains debatable. The role of vitamin D in risk for anemia needs to be examined in further studies.

Randomized open-label trial of docosahexaenoic acid-enriched fish oil and fish meal on cognitive and behavioral functioning in Omani children.
This study aimed to examine the effect of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA)-enriched fish oil supplement and meal of grilled fish on cognitive and behavioral functioning manifested as attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder in primary school students 9 to 10 y of age in Muscat, Oman. ⋯ This study contributed to available evidence on the cognitive and behavioral benefits of DHA in healthy school children. Expanding the food fortification program with DHA-enriched fish oil should be considered as part of broader policy to improve child health.
