We sought to compare complications associated with tunneled peripherally inserted central catheters (tPICCs) and tunneled-cuffed centrally inserted central catheters (tCICCs) in adult home parenteral nutrition (HPN). ⋯ Both tPICCs and tCICCs have similar complication rates per 1000 d. This study highlights that tCICCs, the preferred and currently used venous access devices in HPN, can be effectively and safely replaced by tPICCs, depending on the indications.

This study aimed to examine whether intramuscular adipose tissue of the quadriceps at admission is related to the recovery of swallowing ability during a hospital stay in older inpatients. ⋯ The present study revealed that intramuscular adipose tissue of the quadriceps in older inpatients is more strongly related to recovery of swallowing ability than is muscle mass.

Alcohol consumption is generally associated with increased risk of hypertension. We aimed to investigate, prospectively, the effect of alcoholic-beverage consumption on blood pressure (BP) and incidence of hypertension, after a 4-y follow-up, in participants of the Longitudinal Adult Health Study (ELSA-Brasil). ⋯ Increased consumption of alcoholic beverages was positively associated with increased BP levels and higher chances of developing hypertension in men.

Dehydration and loss of appetite: Key nutrition features in older people receiving home health care.
The aim was to describe a population of older people in home health care based on what is probably a novel theoretical model, previously published, and to analyze longitudinal changes in different dimensions of nutritional status. ⋯ Most participants had poor nutritional status. Dehydration and reduced appetite were important indicators of worsening nutritional and overall status and mortality.

Dietary patterns are a useful tool to study the impact of overall maternal diet on human milk (HM) composition beyond single foods or nutrients. The present study aimed to identify dietary patterns among Chinese lactating women and assess their associations with HM macronutrient composition. ⋯ Maternal dietary patterns with high proportions of animal and plant-based foods were associated with higher fat and lower protein concentrations in colostrum. Different associations were found in mature milk. Dietary-pattern analysis provides an opportunity to characterize total diet and may be more predictive of HM composition than single foods or nutrients.
