The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of 8 wk of time-restricted eating (TRE) along with a caloric restriction on metabolic profile, metabolic rate, symptoms of mood, and eating disorders and weight loss in women with overweight or obesity. ⋯ This study showed that 8 wk of TRE does not influence behavioral parameters in individuals with overweight or obesity, but could lead to weight loss.

Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) significantly increases maternal health risks and adverse effects for the offspring. Observational studies suggest that weight loss before pregnancy may be a promising GDM prevention method. Still, biochemical pathways linking preconception weight changes with subsequent development of GDM among women who are overweight or obese remain unclear. ⋯ Of particular note are the altered levels of branched-chain amino acids, alanine, palmitoleic acid, lysophosphatidylcholine 18:1, and hypoxanthine because of their mechanistic links to insulin resistance and weight change. Mechanisms that may explain how these metabolite modifications contribute to GDM development in those who are overweight or obese are proposed, including insulin resistance pathways. Future nutritional metabolomics preconception intervention studies in overweight or obese are necessary to investigate whether weight loss through lifestyle intervention can reduce GDM occurrence in association with these metabolite alterations and to test the value of these metabolites as potential diagnostic biomarkers of GDM development.

Intake of ultra-processed foods and sleep-related outcomes: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
The aim of this review article was to evaluate the association between the intake of ultra-processed foods and sleep-related outcomes through a systematic review and meta-analysis. Pubmed, LILACS, Scielo, Scopus, Embase, and Web of Science were searched on December 31, 2021, for studies that evaluated the association between ultra-processed foods and sleep-related outcomes (self-reported sleep duration and quality). Pooled odds ratios were assessed through a random-effects model; heterogeneity was evaluated using the I2 statistic. ⋯ When adjusted for cofounders, we found statistically significant results for all ages. The high intake of ultra-processed foods was associated with sleep-related outcomes, with moderate credibility of the evidence. Longitudinal studies and clinical trials confirming these findings are necessary.

Depression is one of the most common diseases in the older population. Difficulties in recognizing its etiology and recurrence make depression a major challenge for health care professionals. ⋯ However, so far, no nutritional recommendations on how to reduce the risk of the disease and its relapses in older adults have been developed. This review outlines research results of conducted studies and focuses on both basic and potentially promising elements of diet, such as proteins, carbohydrates, fats, dietary fiber, vitamins (D, E, C, and B), and microelements such as magnesium, zinc, selenium, or iron.
