Association between body mass index change and mortality in critically ill patients: A retrospective observational study.
Previous studies have emphasized the association between baseline body mass index (BMI) and mortality in patients during a stay in the intensive care unit (ICU). However, to our knowledge, few studies have focused on BMI change during an ICU stay. The aim of this study was to explore the prognostic value of BMI change during ICU hospitalization. ⋯ The present study exposed the potential hazard of increasing BMI for hospital and ICU mortalities during ICU hospitalization and indicating that patients in the ICU may benefit from a more balanced nutritional strategy.

Prevalence and determinants of primary hypertension in urban and rural children from six Indian states: A multicenter study.
Among urban and rural Indian children ages 9 to 18 y, we aimed to assess the prevalence and determinants of primary hypertension (PH), and explore the relationship of fat indices and body composition with hypertension. ⋯ Our study highlights that rural children are also at risk of developing PH, especially those with a higher intake of junk food and carbohydrate. Another interesting finding was the negative association of PH with RMR/weight, increasing PA, as well as a micronutrient-rich diet with calcium and magnesium vital to prevent PH. Health care policies need to focus on the increasing prevalence of obesity and PH, not only in urban, but also rural children where different strategies may have to be applied.

Relationship between nutritional treatment compliance and nutritional status improvements in patients with gastrointestinal impairment taking an oral peptide-based supplement.
Compliance in outpatients with gastrointestinal (GI) malabsorption is key in nutritional treatment. The objective of this study was to assess compliance in patients with GI impairment and malnutrition taking a high-calorie, high-protein, peptide-based oral nutritional supplement (ONS-PBD). ⋯ These data show that ONS-PBD compliance in malnourished patients with GI symptoms is high, reducing GI symptoms and improving patients' nutritional status.

The application value of preoperative fat-free mass index within Global Leadership Initiative on Malnutrition-defined malnutrition criteria for postoperative outcomes in patients with esophagogastric cancer.
The present study aimed to investigate the prognostic value of the preoperative fat-free mass index (FFMI) for postoperative outcomes in patients undergoing esophagogastric cancer surgery and to explore the role of the FFMI in the Global Leadership Initiative on Malnutrition (GLIM) criteria. ⋯ The FFMI has an important role in the diagnosis of malnutrition using the GLIM criteria. In this study, a decreased preoperative FFMI was closely associated with postoperative complications in patients with esophagogastric cancer.

Association of serum total bilirubin with survival outcomes in patients with cancer cachexia: A prospective, multicenter cohort study.
Cancer cachexia is a systemic paraneoplastic phenomenon involving multiple organs, including the liver. Total bilirubin (TBIL) is an easily obtained blood biomarker that reflects liver homeostasis. The aim of this study was to evaluate the prognostic value of serum TBIL in patients with cancer cachexia. ⋯ High TBIL levels are associated with increased all-cause mortality in patients and might be a promising prognostic indicator in patients with cancer cachexia.
