The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of gender on symptom presentation and quality of life of patients with erosive esophagitis (EE) and nonerosive reflux disorder (NERD). ⋯ The GERD-specific symptom severity and general quality of life scores of the EE and the NERD patients were similar. Gender had a great influence on symptom presentation and quality of life in patients with NERD, but not in those with EE.

To investigate the presence of myocardial fibrosis determined by fragmented QRS in patients with severe aortic valve stenosis. ⋯ A higher frequency of fragmented QRS was detected in patients with severe aortic valve stenosis compared to controls.

To measure the prevalence of anti-rubella IgG and hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) among pregnant women in Kuwait in order to assess the effectiveness of the current vaccination programs. ⋯ The prevalence of both anti-rubella IgG and HBsAg among pregnant women in Kuwait was relatively high. However, about 11.6% of pregnant women in Kuwait remain susceptible to rubella infection and hence congenital infection and fetal malformation.

To determine the frequency of primary cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection in pregnant Egyptian women using CMV IgG avidity testing. ⋯ Women who were IgM positive had no primary CMV infection in the index pregnancy as evidenced by the high CMV IgG avidity testing.

To report a case of subtrochanteric femur fracture that led to intraoperative compartment syndrome in the well leg. ⋯ Obesity and prolonged surgery could have caused the acute compartment syndrome of the well leg in this patient.
