The aim of this study was to compare prostate-specific antigen (PSA) kinetics - half-life time (HT), doubling time (DT), and elimination rate PSA (ePSA) in prostate cancer (PCa) monitoring. Implementation of ePSA in clinical practice could help simplify patient monitoring in the remission phase. ⋯ Exploring ePSA norm as ≤0% could help spot biochemical recurrence in a timely manner. Primary health care providers tend to use an irrelevant PSA threshold, that is, 4.0 ng/mL, in postoperative follow-up. The delayed referrals of patients in remission might be reduced if ePSA testing is adopted.

The aim of this study was to investigate the genetic determinants of fusidic acid (FA) resistance in MRSA isolated from patients in Kuwait hospitals. ⋯ The MRSA isolates belonged to diverse genetic backgrounds with the majority carrying the fusC resistance determinants. The high prevalence of FA resistance belonging to diverse genetic backgrounds warrants a review of FA usage in the country to preserve its therapeutic benefits.

C. nivariensis is a rare Candida species which is phenotypically closely related to Candida glabrata and Candida bracarensis. The 3 species form the C. glabrata sensu lato complex. Here, we describe the first isolation and characterization of a C. nivariensis isolate cultured from the tracheal aspirate obtained from a young man in Kuwait. ⋯ This report extends the geographic distribution of C. nivariensis to the Arabian Peninsula. MALDI-TOF MS with updated software and molecular tests are needed to correctly identify C. nivariensis. Since C. nivariensis may exhibit reduced susceptibility to antifungal agents, accurate identification and antifungal susceptibility testing are essential, particularly for isolates from sterile sites, for optimal patient management.

This cross-sectional study aimed to assess the stress outcomes in health-care staff working during the COVID-19 pandemic and to explore the role of coping in the relationship between stress outcomes and mental health dimensions with Preacher & Hayes's mediation analysis. ⋯ Our observations support the assumption about a controlling role of coping in the relationship between work-related stress, alexithymia, emotional processing loneliness and positive/negative affect in medical staff working amid pandemic.

Mediterranean spotted fever (MSF) is a tick-borne rickettsial infection endemic to the Mediterranean coastline countries. As a result of growing tourism, imported cases have been registered in many nonendemic countries and regions. We present clinical laboratory parameters and histopathological data on renal impairment in patients with MSF. The study meets our goal of identifying kidney involvement and detecting renal damage in people with MSF. ⋯ Renal pathology associated with MSF rickettsial infection consists of systemic small vessel vasculitis and vascular injury, leading to ARF in the most severe cases.
