Arterial hypertension (HTN) is important due to its high prevalence, morbidity, and mortality rates. Calcium channel blockers (CCBs) are the first-line antihypertensive drugs. HTN can lead to heart failure (HF) by causing hypertensive left ventricular hypertrophy (HTN LVH). ⋯ CCBs are inferior to renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system blockers but still very effective in bringing about regression of HTN LVH; consequently, CCBs are expected to protect from HF. On the contrary, CCBs protect from HF less effectively than other first-line antihypertensive drugs. This discrepancy needs to be investigated further to improve clinical practice.

The musical composers in the Romantic Era (1800-1910) strived for compositions that expressed human life, including happiness, harmony, and despair. They lived in a period in which freedom of thought, expression of emotion, and inspiration by nature predominated. During this period, intensive trading with other parts of the world brought new microorganisms along, which made infections and epidemics very common. ⋯ This text dwells on diseases and the cause of death of ten composers, namely Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Schubert, Schumann, Mendelssohn, Brahms, Liszt, Mahler, and Bruckner. It is evident that from the perspective of modern medicine, symptoms and forensic facts are not complete, but witnesses' reports and recent medical research have provided passable and plausible clarity. Although many questions will remain unanswered, it appears that the diseases of these composers and their causes of death have their origins in alcohol abuses, age, epidemics (like tuberculosis), and syphilis.

Several forms of cannabinoids are currently being used to manage nausea and vomiting (N/V). Emerging cases of refractory N/V associated with chronic cannabis use among adults and older patients have been reported named cannabis hyperemesis syndrome (CHS). CHS is a condition that leads to repeated and severe N/V in long-term users of cannabinoids. ⋯ More research on CHS is needed to enhance knowledge translation, education, and create awareness in the medical community on the side effects of cannabinoids and to propose the best treatment options.

The novel coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has triggered public anxiety around the world. So far, the evidence suggests that prevention on a public scale is the most effective health measure for thwarting the progress of COVID-19. Another critical aspect of preventing COVID-19 is contact tracing. We aimed to investigate the effectiveness of digital contact tracing applications currently available in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. ⋯ Contact tracing methods have proved to be beneficial for impeding the progress of COVID-19 as compared to older, more labour-intensive manual methods.

Left ventricular thrombosis (LVT) is a common complication of acute ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). This study attempted to synthesize the available evidence to understand the incidence and risk factors of LVT in acute STEMI patients undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). ⋯ The incidence of LVT after acute STEMI in the PCI era remains high. This study provides a preliminary overview of STEMI patients at risk for post-PCI LVT and will help the design of prospective randomized controlled trials for the management and prevention of LVT.
