Randomized Controlled TrialEndotracheal intubation: ultrasound-guided versus fiberscope in patients with cervical spine immobilization.
Ultrasound has growing applications in airway management during anesthesia. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the feasibility of real-time ultrasound-guided tracheal intubation in patients with cervical spine immobilization relative to fiberscope-guided tracheal intubation. ⋯ PACTR201602001476292.

Randomized Controlled TrialCombined intraoperative paracetamol and preoperative dexamethasone reduces postoperative sore throat: a prospective randomized study.
Postoperative sore throat (POST) after general anesthesia with endotracheal intubation is a common and undesirable complication. In this study, we evaluated the combined effects of paracetamol and dexamethasone on the prevention of POST in patients after general anesthesia. ⋯ Paracetamol and dexamethasone infusion reduced the incidence of POST without serious complications in patients for urologic surgery under general anesthesia.

Effect of remifentanil during cardiopulmonary bypass on incidence of acute kidney injury after cardiac surgery.
Acute kidney injury (AKI) after cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) is a well-known postoperative complication. Remifentanil, which is a commonly used ultra-short-acting opioid, has antiinflammatory and sympatholytic effects with improvement of microcirculation. ⋯ The use of remifentanil during CPB did not decrease the incidence of postoperative AKI after cardiac surgery.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyHydroxyethyl starch 130/0.4 versus crystalloid co-loading during general anesthesia induction: a randomized controlled trial.
Hypotension and decreased cardiac output (CO) are common adverse effects during anesthesia induction depending on the patient's pre-anesthetic cardiac condition. The aim of this study was to assess the ability of hydroxyethyl starch (HES) 130/0.4 to prevent hypotension and decreased CO during the induction of general anesthesia. ⋯ Co-loading using HES 130/0.4 prevented hypotension and decreased CO during general anesthesia induction.

Randomized Controlled TrialLocal infiltration analgesia: a 2-year follow-up of patients undergoing total hip arthroplasty.
Local infiltration analgesia (LIA) is commonly used for postoperative pain management following total hip arthroplasty (THA). However, the long-term effects of the component drugs are unclear. The aim of our study was to investigate functional outcome, quality of life, chronic post-surgical pain, and adverse events in patients within 2 years of undergoing THA. ⋯ Analysis of functional outcome, quality of life, and post-discharge surgical pain did not reveal significant differences between patients receiving LIA and those receiving ITM. LIA was found to be a safe technique for THA during the long-term follow-up. However, it should be noted that these conclusions are based on a limited number of patients.
