In this joint guideline of the scientific societies and working groups mentioned in the title, evidence-based recommendations for the use of screening questionnaires and diagnostic tests in patients with neuropathic pain were developed. The systematic literature search and meta-analysis yielded the following results: Of the screening questionnaires, Douleur Neuropathique en 4 Questions (DN4), I‑DN4 (self-administered DN4), and Leeds Assessment of Neuropathic Symptoms and Signs (LANSS) received a strong recommendation, while S‑LANSS (self-administered LANSS) and PainDETECT received weak recommendations for their use in the diagnostic workup of patients with possible neuropathic pain. ⋯ Functional imaging and peripheral nerve blocks are helpful in elucidating the pathophysiology, but current literature does not support their use in diagnosing neuropathic pain. In selected cases, genetic testing in specialized centers may be considered.

Interdisciplinary multimodal pain therapy (IMPT) is an established procedure in the treatment of chronic pain. In daily practice, many institutions regard so-called booster units as an integral part of IMPT. ⋯ It has been shown that currently applied booster offers vary greatly in terms of time intervals, intensities, therapy content and patient selection and that there is a need for structural and process parameters for the implementation of cross-sectoral booster treatments. In conclusion, the authors outline how the development of these parameters will be planned as an expert consensus with the participation of interested institutions and the inclusion of the patient perspective and offer opportunities for participation in this process.

Primary headaches are among the most common pain disorders. They include migraines (prevalence 15%), tension headaches (up to 80%), and others, including trigeminal autonomic headaches (about 0.2%). Migraine, in particular, leads to significant impairment of personal life and high societal costs. ⋯ In the synopsis of multimodal approaches in the treatment of headache, consistently greater effects can be observed when both pharmacological treatment and psychotherapeutic procedures are used. This added value should be regularly taken into account in the treatment of headache disorders. This requires close cooperation between headache specialists and psychotherapists who specialize in the treatment of pain.

Chronic pain is usually a complex disorder with possible indications for an impairment at the personality functioning level. Guidelines recommend a multiprofessional interdisciplinary treatment approach. ⋯ A focus group was used to qualitatively evaluate the implementation of the new treatment manual. With good applicability of the manual and satisfaction of the therapy team, a common language for the interdisciplinary team could be created to improve the therapeutic interaction.

The topic of this article is the team in interdisciplinary multimodal pain therapy (IMPT) in the context of the development of the team concept. The starting points are historical developments, both social and scientific. After World War II numerous war victims continued to suffer from persistent pain. ⋯ Crucial for functioning teams is an effective cooperation and interaction. Related organizational issues, conflicts, peculiarities, and possibilities for solutions are presented. In the meantime, IMPT as a procedure has become a regular service provided in health care.
