Antiretroviral therapy-linked metabolic abnormalities have become a growing concern among people living with HIV. There is limited data regarding the effects of dolutegravir-based treatment on blood glucose levels and serum lipid profiles in people living with HIV in Ethiopia. Thus, this study aimed to assess blood glucose levels and serum lipid profiles among people living with HIV on dolutegravir-based versus efavirenz-based therapy. ⋯ Efavirenz-based therapy resulted in higher mean values of total cholesterol and high-density lipoprotein as compared with dolutegravir-based therapy. It is important to consider and evaluate high-density lipoprotein levels in HIV patients on dolutegravir-based therapy, and total cholesterol levels in people living with HIV on efavirenz-based therapy.

Accurate diagnosis of macular atrophy is paramount to enable appropriate treatment when novel treatments for geographic atrophy and macular dystrophies become available. Genetic testing is useful in distinguishing between the two conditions but is not feasible for the majority of patients in real-world clinical practice. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the potential misdiagnosis of inherited macular dystrophy as age-related macular degeneration (AMD) in real-world ophthalmic practice to assist in the development of guidelines to improve diagnostic accuracy while minimizing genetic testing for targeted patients. ⋯ Improving the diagnostic accuracy of both AMD and macular dystrophy, while ensuring cost-efficient genetic testing, will improve the targeted treatment of macular diseases when emerging treatments become available.

To investigate the cognition of cancer warning symptoms and cancer risk factors among Chinese college students, analyze the influencing factors, and explain the correlations between cancer cognition and cancer symptom discrimination, cancer fear and psychological distress. ⋯ The overall cancer cognition situation among Chinese college students is not optimistic, which highlights the necessity of improving the cancer health literacy among Chinese college students. With the increasing morbidity and mortality rates of cancer, it is necessary to raise awareness of early detection, and early treatment of cancer among the general public. Health education interventions are helpful to improve cancer health literacy.

Vector-borne diseases are a growing burden worldwide. In particular, the risks of allergic reactions to bites are associated with growing arthropod populations in contact with the public. The diversity of allergic reactions associated with host and arthropod factors difficult disease diagnosis, prognosis and prevention. Therefore, arthropod-associated allergies are underdiagnosed and require better surveillance of arthropod populations and disease diagnosis and management. ⋯ Allergic reactions and symptoms in response to arthropod bites vary in association with host and arthropod factors. Herein we propose recommendations to control allergic symptoms, associated disease risk factors and the way forward to advance in the prevention and control of arthropod-associated allergies.

This study aimed to evaluate the redox status, antioxidant barrier, and oxidative damage to proteins, lipids, and DNA in patients with gastric cancer (GC). We are also the first to assess the diagnostic utility of redox parameters in patients with GC with respect to histopathological parameters. ⋯ Gastric cancer is strongly linked to a systemic redox imbalance and increased oxidative damage to proteins, lipids, and DNA. Redox biomarkers are potential diagnostic indicators of gastric cancer advancement.
