The selection and timing of anti-thymocyte globulin (ATG)-based immunosuppressive therapy (IST) or allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) in patients with transfusion-dependent non-severe aplastic anemia (TD-NSAA) pose significant clinical challenges. This study aims to compare the efficacy and long-term outcomes of the two treatments in TD-NSAA. ⋯ Prior treatment history, disease duration, and serum ferritin levels should be carefully weighed when making the choice between ATG-based IST and allo-HSCT for TD-NSAA.

Serum gamma-glutamyltransferase (GGT) activity has been proposed as a promising predictor of atherosclerosis-related complications and a prognostic marker for cardiovascular diseases. The objective of this study was to investigate the potential correlation between serum levels of GGT and early-onset coronary artery disease (EOCAD). ⋯ The results of this study suggest that elevated serum GGT levels are associated with the development of EOCAD, and GGT may be implicated in the pathogenesis of the disease. Further large-scale prospective studies are needed to explore the potential relationship between serum GGT levels and the dynamic development of EOCAD.

To explore the crosstalk between baseline or visit hemoglobin and major adverse cardiovascular and cerebral events (MACCE) in percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) patients and to construct risk stratification models to predict MACCE amongst these patients. ⋯ Visit hemoglobin and long-term hemoglobin changes were more predictive of MACCE risk than baseline hemoglobin levels. Our findings indicated that increasing hemoglobin levels might improve the long-term prognosis of anemia patients. We established a new risk stratification model for MACCE, which may more efficiently prioritize targeted screening for at-risk anemic patients undergoing PCI.

A shift towards more plant-based diets is considered healthy and environmentally sustainable but may cause a concern regarding protein and amino acid intakes. This modelling study aimed to assess the impacts of partial replacement of red and processed meat with legumes or cereals on the protein and indispensable amino acid intakes in the Finnish adult population. ⋯ The mean daily protein intake remained sufficient when red and processed meat was partially replaced with legumes or cereals in the Finnish adult population. However, protein adequacy in the elderly population warrants attention and more research.

Morphometric vertebral fractures (VFs) and osteopathy are prevalent and clinically significant complications of Cushing disease (CD). However whether they represent an early occurrence in the natural progression of the disease is an ongoing debate. This study aimed to assess the prevalence and determinants of VFs in patients newly diagnosed with CD. ⋯ This is the first study reporting a high prevalence of radiologic VFs in recently diagnosed CD patients. VFs may represent an early manifestation of CD and may be related to cortisol levels. Therefore, VF assessment should be included in the workup during CD diagnosis.
