The potential relationships of interest between authors, reviewers, editors and financial management of the journals can lead to a conflict of interest in their performances. ⋯ Potential conflicts of interest should be transparent and the knowledge and values should be an objective of the magazines. The declaration of relationships should be required in the communication of research, but their existence should not prejudge misconduct.

Many authors believe that there are biases in scientific publications. Editorial biases include publication bias; which refers to those situations where the results influence the editor's decision, and editorial bias refers to those situations where factors related with authors or their environment influence the decision. ⋯ Editorial biases exists. Authors, when submitting their manuscript, should analyse different journals and decide where their article will receive adequate treatment.

Various cases of editors of leading journals resigning has led to a debate on the question of editorial independence, understood as the unconditional freedom of editors to approve the contents of their journals. ⋯ Editors of scientific publications not only have to be judges of the articles they receive, but they must also be judged by their decisions, and editorial independence cannot be a refuge for personal stances. By independence it must be understood as the meticulousness in accepting manuscripts and the application of transparent criteria.

The evidence that recanalization and reperfusion of the distal vascular bed in appropriately selected patients is crucial to achieve good functional outcome has triggered interest and research into endovascular treatment of acute ischemic stroke. ⋯ Endovascular treatment of stroke is a new therapeutic tool for achieving reperfusion safely in patients ineligible for Alteplase or who have failed reperfusion with an iv fibrinolytic.
