ReviewApplication and measurement properties of EQ-5D to measure quality of life in patients with upper extremity orthopaedic disorders: a systematic literature review.
The EuroQol-5 Dimension (EQ-5D) is the most widely used generic instrument to measure quality of life (QoL), yet its application in upper extremity orthopaedics as well as its measurement properties remain largely undefined. We implemented a systematic literature review to provide an overview of the application of EQ-5D in patients with upper extremity disorders and analyse its measurement properties. ⋯ For surgical interventions of the upper extremity, EQ-5D was mostly applied to assess QoL as a primary outcome in patients with shoulder disorders. Investigations of the measurement properties were rare, but indicate good reliability and validity as well as moderate responsiveness in patients with upper extremity conditions.

Injury prevention and return to play strategies in elite football: no consent between players and team coaches.
Injuries are a common problem in football. To improve prevention strategies, the players' (p) and coaches' (c) views need to be disclosed as they have a strong impact on return to play decisions. The aim of this study is to reveal current opinions with regard to injury prevention and return to play strategies to introduce new strategies in elite football. ⋯ The basic knowledge of prevention and injuries is sufficient in elite football, but the transfer from theoretical knowledge to practical routine is suboptimal. The study also shows possibilities to improve the prevention process and communication between players, coaches, doctors, and physiotherapists, while there is no consent between players and coaches regarding return to play decision.

Efficiency and predictive parameters of outcome of a multimodal pain management concept with spinal injections in patients with low back pain: a retrospective study of 445 patients.
Low back pain is one of the most common diseases of modern civilization. Multimodal pain management (MPM) represents a central approach to avoiding surgery. Short-term results are published rarely and often incomparable because of different treatment concepts. ⋯ MPM therapy for more than 5 days seems to be an efficient short-term approach to treating low back pain. Knowledge of some of the outcome predictors helps to early identify patients who require more intensive individual care. In the case of no clear indication for surgery, MPM can be an appropriate treatment option.

Incidence and risk factors for adjacent segment degeneration following occipitoaxial fusion for atlantoaxial instability in non-rheumatoid arthritis.
To investigate the incidence and risk factors for adjacent segment degeneration (ASD) following occipitoaxial fusion (OAF) for atlantoaxial instability (AAI) in non-rheumatoid arthritis (RA). ⋯ Under-correction of the O-C2 angle is likely to cause malalignment of the cervical spine, resulting in the development of postoperative ASD, SAS, and swan neck deformity.

An anatomical study on the effectiveness of Arthrex Mini TightRope® ligament reconstruction in an unstable trapeziometacarpal joint.
Laxity in the trapeziometacarpal (TMC) joint is a debilitating condition usually affecting a young population. It can be treated operatively with ligament reconstruction. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of the Arthrex Mini TightRope® in reinforcing the stabilizing ligaments in an unstable TMC joint without decreasing the range of motion of the thumb. This method was compared with the "gold standard" published by Eaton and Littler in 1973. ⋯ The Arthrex Mini TightRope® provided a good stabilization method for the TMC joint in this anatomical model without compromising the range of motion.
