Volar locking plate removal after distal radius fracture: a 10-year retrospective study.
Distal radius fracture (DRF) is the most common upper extremity fracture. After the introduction of volar locking plate (VLP) fixation, treatment has shifted from conservative management to more operative management. The implant removal rate after VLP fixation in patients with DRF varies and the reasons for removal and associated patient characteristics have not been clearly defined. This study aimed to compare the characteristics of patients who underwent VLP with and without subsequent implant removal. Second, the rate of implant removal according to the implant position and type was investigated. Finally, we summarized clinical outcome with implant removal, the reasons for, and complications associated with implant removal. ⋯ Level IV.

Biomechanics of a cemented short stem: a comparative in vitro study regarding primary stability and maximum fracture load.
In total hip arthroplasty, uncemented short stems have been used more and more frequently in recent years. Especially for short and curved femoral implants, bone-preserving and soft tissue-sparing properties are postulated. However, indication is limited to sufficient bone quality. At present, there are no curved short stems available which are based on cemented fixation. ⋯ Primary stability of the cemented short stem was not negatively influenced compared to the cemented conventional stem and no significant difference in fracture load was observed. However, a clear difference in the fracture pattern has been identified.

RSA, TSA and PyC hemi-prostheses: comparing indications and clinical outcomes using a second-generation modular short-stem shoulder prosthesis.
The goal of this study was to provide an insight into the clinical results after modular short-stem shoulder arthroplasty for various indications. ⋯ Using a second-generation short-stem shoulder prostheses, TSA achieves the best clinical improvements overall, especially for OA with a Walch A glenoid. Despite refixation of the subscapularis tendon in all cases, RSA has inferior internal rotation than TSA and PyC, suggesting a mechanical limitation. OA, a Walch B glenoid and arthritis caused by instability seem to be ideal indications when considering PyC.

The purpose of this study was to describe the indications and technical aspects as well as evaluate the clinical and functional outcome of lengthening osteotomy of the lateral trochlear ridge in patients with patellofemoral pain and/or patella instability and presence of trochlear dysplasia Dejour type A or lack of Dejour type dysplasia and short lateral articular trochlea. ⋯ Level IV, Case Series.

Endoscopic "internal splinting" repair technique for acute Achilles tendon rupture.
Recently, endoscopically assisted Achilles tendon repair techniques have improved to overcome the surgical complications. However, the risk of sural nerve injury and the strength of repair are still the most concerning aspects. ⋯ Level IV, case series.
