Review Meta AnalysisHighly cross-linked polyethylene in primary total knee arthroplasty is associated with a lower rate of revision for aseptic loosening: a meta-analysis of 962,467 cases.
The evolution in total knee arthroplasty (TKA) includes the highly cross-linked polyethylene (HXLPE) which has been reported as an effective manner to reduce the wear of the polyethylene and the osteolysis. The purpose of the present study is to synthesize the results of comparative studies between HXLPE and conventional polyethylenes and determine their effect in primary TKA. ⋯ The present meta-analysis showed that regarding the overall revision rate and radiographic outcomes there was no significant difference between the two types of liners. On the other hand, the significantly less revision rate due to loosening supports the routine continued use of HXLPE in primary TKA.

Review Meta AnalysisDifferences between simple trapeziectomy and trapeziectomy with ligament reconstruction and tendon interposition for the treatment of trapeziometacarpal osteoarthritis: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
The optimal management of trapeziometacarpal osteoarthritis remains controversial. This systematic review and meta-analysis assessed the subjective and objective outcomes and complications of simple trapeziectomy (T) versus trapeziectomy with ligament reconstruction and tendon interposition (T + LRTI). ⋯ While the T + LRTI group demonstrated a better effect in grip and tip pinch strength at the one-year follow-up, there was no statistical difference in key pinch strength, pain relief, and DASH. Furthermore, T + LRTI has more latrogenic injury, more short-term postoperative complications, and higher surgical costs. Considered comprehensively, if there is no special strength requirement, we recommend simple trapeziectomy.

ReviewThe role of the femoral component orientation on dislocations in THA: a systematic review.
Dislocation remains a major complication in total hip arthroplasty (THA), in which femoral component orientation is considered a key parameter. New imaging modalities and definitions on femoral component orientation have been introduced, describing orientation in different planes. This study aims to systematically review the relevance of the different orientation parameters on implant stability. ⋯ Because of incomparable definitions, limited quality and heterogeneity in methodology of the included studies, there is only weak evidence that the degree of transverse component version is related with implant stability in primary THA. Recommendations about the optimal orientation of the femoral component in all three anatomical planes cannot be provided. Future studies should uniformly define the three-dimensional orientation of the femoral component and systematically describe implant stability.
