The outcomes of surgical treatment for lateral Hoffa fracture nonunions.
Lateral Hoffa nonunion are rare injuries. A significant percentage of these nonunions are due to missed acute lateral Hoffa fractures. Operative management of these injuries is difficult and complicated by the presence of bone loss, infection, and soft-tissue contractures. In this study, the aim was to assess clinical and functional outcome in our group of patients with lateral Hoffa nonunion who had undergone operative management and to determine whether variables such as fracture type, infection, and previous surgery affect nonunion/complication rates. ⋯ Lateral Hoffa nonunion can be managed with careful planning of surgical approaches and fixation techniques.

Increased length of stay following total joint arthroplasty based on insurance type.
Increased length of stay after total joint arthroplasty has been shown to be a risk factor for peri-operative complications. The purpose of this study was to determine if Medicaid insurance would be a risk factor for increased length of stay after total joint arthroplasty. ⋯ Patients with Medicaid insurance undergoing total joint arthroplasty have increased length of stay compared to patients with Medicare or Private insurance and have higher incidence of pre-operative narcotic use.

Incidence and treatment of intracapsular femoral neck fractures in Germany.
Intracapsular femoral neck fractures are one of the most common fractures in Germany. Nevertheless, the epidemiology and treatment modalities are not described comprehensively. For this reason, this study highlights the epidemiology of femoral neck fractures in different age groups and summarizes treatment strategies within the period from 2009 to 2019 based on nationwide data. ⋯ The incidence of intracapsular femoral neck fractures in Germany has been increasing continuously within the last decade. In particular, patients over 80 years suffered predominantly from this type of fracture. The majority was treated with a joint replacement procedure, mainly cemented hemiarthroplasty.

Autologous replacement of the head of the radius-proximal fibula versus second metatarsal base: an anatomic feasibility study.
This study investigated the anatomic feasibility of a new surgical therapy option for radial head arthrosis using an autologous vascularized bone graft of the second metatarsal and proximal fibula to recreate the proximal radiohumeral joint. ⋯ Level IV, anatomic study.

Correction of the pelvic incidence using a bilateral extending pelvic osteotomy: a proof of concept study.
The aim of this proof of concept human cadaver study was to quantify the effect of a bilateral extending pelvic osteotomy (BEPO) on pelvic incidence (PI) as a potential alternative for a pedicle subtraction osteotomy (PSO) in patients with severe spinal sagittal malalignment. ⋯ There was a feasible and effective correction of PI using the BEPO technique on the os ilium. This was a preliminary cadaveric study. No conclusions could be made on global sagittal alignment. We postulate that an extending osteotomy of the ilium could be a potential alternative for a PSO reducing the complexity of spine surgery in patients with severe spinal sagittal malalignment.
