Unicompartmental knee arthroplasties: does the type of tibial component selected influence implant survival?
Few information has been published on the survival of unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) and fixed-bearing tibial components. The aim of this study is to analyze if UKA survival varies according to UKA model used and to analyze the possible risk factors for UKA revision. ⋯ Fixed-bearing UKAs showed excellent mid- and long-term survival rates. Aseptic loosening is the main cause of implant failure. PKR group (metal-backed component) seem to be a protector factor to UKA revision when it was compared with ACCURIS UKA group (all-polyethylene tibial component).

Ultrasonographic diagnosis of medial meniscus posterior root tear in early knee osteoarthritis: a comparative study.
This study aimed to detect medial meniscal posterior root tear (MMPRT) diagnostic methods with high sensitivity and specificity using dynamic ultrasonographic evaluation in patients with early knee osteoarthritis (OA) and demonstrate the usefulness of dynamic ultrasonographic medial meniscal extrusion (MME) evaluation in MMPRT diagnosis using a cutoff value. ⋯ Ultrasonographic MME evaluations for MMPRT diagnosis showed relatively high sensitivity and specificity in patients with early knee OA. Dynamic ultrasonographic MME evaluation may lead to appropriate additional examinations, early diagnosis, and intervention for MMPRT in patients with early knee OA.

Precontoured dynamic compression plate using patient-specific 3D-printed models in minimally invasive surgical technique for midshaft clavicle fractures.
This study introduced a novel approach for the treatment of midshaft clavicle fractures, utilizing patient-specific 3D-printed models for accurate preoperative contouring of dynamic compression plates (DCPs) and an alternative minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis (MIPO) technique with precontoured DCPs through small vertical separated incisions. ⋯ Our study demonstrated that the use of a patient-specific precontoured DCP, in combination with 3D printing technology, provides accurate preoperative planning, effective fracture reduction, and improved postoperative outcomes in displaced midshaft clavicle fractures. The MIPO with a patient-specific precontoured DCP through separated vertical incisions along the Langer's lines appears to be a promising option, regarding appearance, avoiding associated complications, and obviating the need for reoperation. These results suggest that this technique has merit and can be a viable option for the treatment of midshaft clavicle fractures.

Cut-off values of preoperative knee extensor strength and hip abductor strength for predicting good walking ability after total knee arthroplasty.
Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) reduces pain and improves physical function; however, not all patients have successful outcomes after surgery. To identify these patients would be critical information for improving rehabilitation programs. The purpose of this study was to clarify the cut-off values of lower extremity muscle strength for predicting postoperative good walking ability. ⋯ The cut-off values of preoperative KES and HAS for predicting good walking ability after TKA are 0.79 Nm/kg on the involved side and 0.86 Nm/kg on the uninvolved side, and 0.57 Nm/kg on the involved side and 0.61 Nm/kg on the uninvolved side, respectively. We should provide enhanced pre- and post-operative rehabilitation programs for patients with muscle strength lower than these values.

Trends, complications, and readmission of allogeneic red blood cell transfusion in primary total hip arthroplasty in china: a national retrospective cohort study.
Decrease in allogenic red blood cell (RBC) transfusion rates following total hip arthroplasty (THA) has been reported in the United States, but whether other countries share the same trend remains unclear. Additionally, the relation of allogenic RBC transfusion to the risk of complications in THA remains controversial. Using the Chinese national inpatient database, the current study aimed to examine trends, complications, charges, and readmission patterns of allogeneic RBC transfusion in THA. ⋯ This study found that allogeneic RBC transfusion in THA was not associated with the increased risk of complications and any-cause readmission. However, the currently restrictive transfusion policy should be continued because excessive blood transfusion may increase the socioeconomic burden.
