Improved short-term outcomes for a novel, fluoroscopy-based robotic-assisted total hip arthroplasty system compared to manual technique with fluoroscopic assistance.
While robotic-assisted total hip arthroplasty (RA-THA) has been associated with improved accuracy of component placement, the perioperative and early postoperative outcomes of fluoroscopy-based RA-THA systems have yet to be elucidated. ⋯ Fluoroscopy-based RA-THA demonstrates low rates of postoperative complications, improved postoperative pain profiles, and shortened LOS when compared to manual, fluoroscopy-assisted THA.

The effect of subscapularis repair in reverse total shoulder arthroplasty depends on the design of the implant: a comparative study with a minimum 2-year follow-up.
The role of the subscapularis (Ssc) tendon does not yet have a well-defined role in RSA. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate if the repair of the Ssc in RSA improves overall clinical and radiographic results and if it has the same results using a medialized design humeral stem compared to a lateralized design. ⋯ Level III; Retrospective Cohort Comparison; Treatment Study.

Bilateral simultaneous knee arthroplasty shows comparable early outcome and complication rate as staged bilateral knee arthroplasty for patients scored ASA 1-3 if performed by a high-volume surgeon: a retrospective cohort study of 127 cases.
The study compares early outcomes after simultaneous and staged knee arthroplasty in patients with bilateral knee osteoarthritis (OA) to evaluate whether simultaneous bilateral TKA shows comparable early outcomes and complication rates to staged bilateral TKA. ⋯ Level IV.

Safety of immediate open traumatic extensor tendon repair performed at an emergency department minor procedure room.
The superficial location of the extensor tendons makes them particularly vulnerable to lacerations. Patients most commonly present to the emergency department (ED) after these injuries. We aimed to measure the safety of immediate surgical repair of traumatic open extensor tendon injuries in an ED minor procedure room (MPR) under local anesthesia, and the associated post-operative infection and complication rates. ⋯ In this cohort, traumatic extensor tendon repairs performed in an ED MPR were found to be medically safe and to associate with a low postoperative infection rate. As preoperative assessment is simple and practical, and limited medical personnel is utilized, this surgical setting may enable us to reduce medical costs.

An isoelastic monoblock cup versus a modular metal-back cup: a matched-pair analysis of clinical and radiological results using Einzel-Bild-Röntgen-Analyse software.
Bone preservation and long-term survival are the main challenges in cementless total hip arthroplasty (THA). A good bone stock is especially important for adequate anchorage of the cup in revision cases. However, the optimal acetabular cup design for preserving good bone stock is still unclear. We aimed to compare clinical outcome, radiological alterations, migration, and wear at mid-term for two different cup types. ⋯ The isoelastic press-fit monoblock VEPE cup and modular metal-back HXLPE cup showed equivalent mid-term wear and cup migration. Long-term studies are required to determine the effects of modularity, isoelasticity, and polyethylene stabilization with vitamin E on cup loosening and survival rates.
