Clinical outcomes of patellofemoral arthroplasty: robotic assistance produces superior short and mid-term outcomes.
Patellofemoral arthroplasty (PFA) has been shown to provide symptomatic improvement for isolated patellofemoral osteoarthritis (PFOA). The efficacy of robotic-assisted PFA and the most suitable PFA implant design, however, remain ongoing matters of debate. This study sought to compare clinical outcomes between patients who underwent robotic-assisted versus conventional PFAs with inlay and onlay prosthetic designs. ⋯ III.

Peroneal artery injury potential due to different syndesmosis screw placement options: a simulation study with lower extremity computed tomography angiography.
The aim of this study is to assess the risk of peroneal artery injury of hardware placement at the fixation of syndesmotic injuries. ⋯ Thanks to this radiological anatomy simulation study, we believe that we have increased the awareness of the peroneal artery potential in syndesmosis screw application. Each syndesmosis screw placement option may have different potential for injury to the peroneal artery. To decrease the peroneal artery injury potential, we recommend the followings. If individual syndesmosis screw angle trajection can be measured, place the screw 1.5 cm proximal to the ankle joint using a 3.5 mm screw shaft. If not, fix it with 30° trajection regardless of the screw diameter at the same level. If the most important issue is the peroneal artery circulation, use the screw level up to 1 cm proximal to the ankle joint regardless of the screw angle trajection and screw diameter.

Favorable early outcomes of medial unicompartimental knee arthroplasty in active patients presenting a degenerative medial meniscus root tear with meniscal extrusion and mild radiographic osteoarthritis.
There is only limited literature available evaluating the preferable treatment for active mid-age or elderly patients presenting with a degenerative medial meniscus root tear (d-MMRT) with medial meniscal extrusion (MME) and early-phase radiographic osteoarthritis (OA), failing to provide solid evidence. The aim of this study was to evaluate early outcomes of medial unicompartimental arthroplasty (mUKA) in active patients presenting a d-MMRT with meniscal extrusion and mild radiographic OA of the knee. To prove this claim we hypothesized that (1) patients with a d-MMRT with initial grade 1-3 KL OA of the medial compartment of the knee present the same pre-operative symptoms as patients with an end-stage grade 4 K-L OA, and that (2) those patients with d-MMRT and low-grade OA achieve the same early clinical and functional outcomes when treated with mUKA compared to patients with end-stage medial OA. ⋯ Favorable early clinical outcomes were obtained after mUKA in active mid-age and elderly patients presenting with degenerative medial meniscus root tear and mild isolated medial OA. Patients with mild no bone-on-bone OA but with degenerative medial meniscus root tear and medial meniscal extrusion presented the same or worse pre-operative symptoms as patients with end-stage medial OA and benefit the same from mUKA.

Development and validation of a nomogram to predict the risk of constipation after lumbar interbody fusion surgery.
To understand the incidence of postoperative constipation and the risk factors of constipation in patients with lumbar interbody fusion, we constructed and verified the constipation risk prediction model, so as to provide reference for the prevention and treatment of postoperative constipation. ⋯ The use of calcium channel blockers, polypharmacy, postoperative bed time, and history of constipation are independent risk factors for postoperative constipation in patients undergoing lumbar interbody fusion. The constructed risk prediction model has good discriminative ability.

Motion acquisition of gait characteristics one week after total hip arthroplasty: a factor analysis.
Clinical gait analysis can be used to evaluate the recovery process of patients undergoing total hip arthroplasty (THA). The postoperative walking patterns of these patients can be significantly influenced by the choice of surgical approach, as each procedure alters distinct anatomical structures. The aim of this study is twofold. The first objective is to develop a gait model to describe the change in ambulation one week after THA. The secondary goal is to describe the differences associated with the surgical approach. ⋯ This study identified a four-component gait model specific to THA patients. The results showed that patients after THA have longer stride time but shorter stride length, wider base of support, and longer stance time, although the posterior group had a statistically significant shorter stance time than the others. The findings of this research have the potential to simplify the reporting of gait outcomes, reduce redundancy, and inform targeted interventions in regards to specific gait domains.
